I've never used the product. There was a thread on this website a few years ago.

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=57607

A Google search on the product shows a number of other reviews and evaluations of that product and similar products. A couple of examples are:

http://www.hansenpolebuildings.com/tag/prodex/

http://www.greenbuildingadvisor.com...utions/ftc-cracking-down-false-r-value-claims

If you get a good batch of the material and install it properly, it should act as a moisture barrier and cut down on air leaks. Properly installed reflective foil should help with radiant heat on hot days. If you take the time to drill down to the technical data on the seller's website you will find that the claimed R values are based on reducing the downward flow of heat of the entire building system. It looks like most of the claimed R value is really due to creating a dead air space between the upper surface (i.e., roof) and the product that they are selling.

13/64" thick (less than 1/4 thick) = R16....?

no

another radiant barrier that won't deliver a tenth of that R value under most of your real world conditions. As an addition to actual insulation maybe, but to stay warm in KS winters... no.

I have a friend that used this very product some years back in his metal building. Although its better than nothing, his shop is very hot in the summer. I think their R rating is misleading.

Thank you for the links! I had my suspicions about it so that is why I posted. Don't know much about how insulation really works just need something that works. I will stick with the second link in my post for my insulation. My shop is all metal and I think it will work just fine.

Thanks again!

Regards, Jeff

Radiant barriers only work when dealing with very high temperatures. (I'm not talking about radiant floors or radiators - those transfer heat via forced or natural conduction, not radiation.) High meaning a fire place, or exhaust headers or radiant tube heaters. i.e., north of 4-500*F.

So yeah, shiny surfaces at temperatures for a garage / attic / roof don't work.
