Anyone Using a Base-Plate Two Post Lift?

Haven't settled on a brand of two post lift yet but wanted to hear if anyone is using a 'base plate' two post lift? Most of the two post lifts built for garages with ceilings less than 12-foot high have a base plate between the upright posts that runs on the ground. They are typically beveled to help drive over them but my question is this...does the presence of the base plate mean the lifting arms never drop completely to the floor? It almost seems as if the extra couple inches would keep the arms up higher since the ones I've seen don't appear to have an offset and this might be a problem with a lowered car.
I know some brands like Mohawk avoid this base plate issue by having a tubular crossover pipe up above the height of the uprights but as much as I'd like to have a Mohawk in my garage, they are a bit more than I want to spend.
Thanks,

I have an Atlas base plate lift - no issues with "lower" cars. The lift arm drop all the way down and have a 3.5" height at the lowest point. The lift is for low ceiling applications (as low as 10'). Love this lift.

My neighbor has an Atlas two post and loves it but his isn't the base plate model since he has 12' ceilings. Is your Atlas the BP 8000 or BP 9000 that has the asymmetrical arms? I see you've got a Cobra and I've got the same issues with side exhaust on my 66 Corvette, need to make sure the arms are low enough to clear it.
Thanks for the feedback.
