Hi all. New to this board and like what I've found. I'm thinking about having a Modine Hot Dawg gas heater installed in my 3 car garage. Just wondering what anyone's experience has been with these? What should I expect to pay?

Can't help you with the cost part, its been so long that I have forgotten what I paid.

Knowing what I know now, I would have paid double or triple what I paid. At the time I was complaining and wondering if it was worth it, now I would pay it with a smile. It is so worth any cost to have a warm garage to work in.

I put a HD45 in mine last fall and I am glad I did. I payed a little over $500 for it. The only downfall was the estimates I got fro install. Lowest was $725, so I did it myself with the help of people here. Total install was just over $175. For your 3 car you should be able get a HD60 for around $600 not including the shipping. It is well worth it to have a heated garage. I have a programable thermostat and have it set for a low of 45 and high of 70 on the weekends. At 45 it keeps it nice for me in the morning startup for work. And best of all, my bill only went up $20 monthly. I couldn't be happier. DO IT!!!!!!

I have a couple of friends who used the Modine Hot Dawg Heaters to heat their garages. From everything I've heard these heaters are great. Very dependable and efficient. QC Supply sells them online and is offering Free Shipping right now, which is nice. I'm sure these weigh a little bit and cost $ to ship. Check out this link

Prices seem pretty reasonable too.

I haven't had mine put in yet, but I just got 7 quotes for my garage. It should at least give you a start for some pricing.

My garage is about 1100 square feet in an L shape and I needed about 100ft of gas line to get to the heater. I was looking for a 75,000 btu unit. Some people were quoting Lennox, Modine, and another brand I've never heard of. Here are the quotes I got.

I ended up calling one of the Lennox dealers who came in at $1500 and asked him if he'd be interested in doing it for $1300. He said he'd do it for $1350. I was pretty happy with that because he's the one that installed my Lennox home furnace when the house was built.

My father has one in his shop, and it does a great job. Only problem he has had is two circuit boards have gone bad over the last 5 years. (factory covered) Otherwise, great.

I've had one in my 24x24 garage for about 5 years now, and its been great.. brother in law has one as well.

I'm going to be putting a slightly larger one in my new 30x30 garage thats on the property.

Do you guys think a 125K Hot Dawg would be able to handle a well insulated 40x60 shop?

That's 52 BTU's per square foot. I'd say it would work OK. My garage has just under 33 BTUs/Sq. ft and it's pretty comfortable. Might want a couple of ceiling fans set on slow to circulate the warm air.
