Anyone using a PTAC a/c - heat unit?

These are the style units used it hotel rooms. Just curious if you could share if your running one in your garage.

In general, PTACs are very expensive to operate. Most rely on electric resistance heating below about 40F which is very expensive.

These thing are designed to be easily swappable by maintenance people with no HVAC training. Hotels and apartment complex keep a bunch of spares in stock and just swap them out. When they get enough, the ship them out to be repaired.

It seems to me it depends on your alternatives and your location, lots of people here heat their shop/garage with electric so if that's one of your options, it will work fine. There are threads here on using those units and I think people were very happy with them.

In GA, sure. How many hours a year are you heating ?

What is the EER/SEER on your PTAC ? You might save money by switching to a high efficiency window unit.

I only heat the space a few days a year. Unsure of the rating, but it is so rarely used that it’s not been a concern.
