Anyone Using a Wall-Mounted Door Opener?

Along these same lines... is there a reason I couldn't use tracks for an 8 foot tall door on a 7 foot tall door? That would put the door tracks up closer to the ceiling and increase headroom.

Greetings! This is my very first post. :)

I have dual 8500's being installed in a high-lift configuration this upcoming Thursday and am wondering if the door open/close signal can be simply triggered by briefly touching the 888LM keypad signal wires together. I'd like to mount doorbells on the wall about 6 feet underneath their respective 8500s to open/close the doors without walking all the way back to the entrance to the house.

I know this worked at my old house (which used a much older track opener) but I can't seem to find the information about the 8500.

Any help would be deeply appreciated - thanks!

I have a 12x12 door with the side mount liftmaster and it's amazing.

Super quiet, and like other people said, has the solenoid cam/deadbolt that keeps it secure. I like the slow start/stop option. Keeps your motor in better shape. Much cleaner install too. Had mine connected to my alarm.com account in less than 5 minutes.

I had a polyurethane insolated door & Liftmaster 8500 installed a month ago. Much neater, quieter & more security with the electric lock bar.

I don't think you can use a door bell switch to run these. The wall consoles communicate with the machines (the last generation to the 8500 as well) and you will have problems using a simple switch.

Do what I did, buy an additional car opener and put it on a shelf underneath the openers. No wiring, no hassle, easy to install (lay it wherever you want it).

One question regarding the remote light. It comes with the opener. It's wireless. Has anyone swapped it with another light fixture? Not sure if this is possible, or what wireless system is in place to run the overhead light.

Ideally I'd like to put some nicer shop lights from the ceiling and have those run when the doors are opened.

Thanks.

There are two bulbs in the remote light fixtures. It would appear all you would need to do would be to screw in an adapter to allow you to plug in a cord to your lights. (I do not know anything about elec load and things like that). That would allow you to have several lights on. I have two wireless lights due to two openers and have LED bulbs in them . Then I have multiple other lights on switches. I also have seen on here wireless remotes for lights so you may need to go that way. I like mine switched as many times I simply am only passing thru and do not need all the lights on for that short period of time.

Thanks Mark. I'm wondering if I can pull the wireless hardware out of the fixture and hook a completely different light to it altogether (and hide the hardware somehow).

A fixture like what's on the homepage of GJ here right now.

I have the older liftmaster 3800 which I think is pretty much the same as the 8500 minus some of the integrated gateway accessories.

It's a slam dunk. No reason to have an overhead garage door opener.

I'd also suggest putting the two openers in the middle between the two doors and if the speaker is in the way then just move it down. It's just drywall.

My only question is why you don't have high lift tracks? If you ever plan on putting a lift in the garage that extra foot or so will come in handy.

As for the light question? I'm pretty sure you can remove the receivers from the Liftmaster light and attach it to something else. I was going to do that but I need to research the whole internet gateway thing first to see if there's a different way to control the lights and still have them come on and off when the door opens or when you cross the light beam.

Either way, the trick will be in how you hide the module and/or integrate it into whatever light you want to control.

I have a bedroom above the opener too. It's not whisper quiet but more quiet than anything else I've ever had.

Thanks for the info. I do have a lift (motorcycle) and the current height is no problem.

As for the receivers, I'm hoping I can hide them up in the ceiling, with the different lights wired to them. We'll see ..

So the new 8500's are mounted up and working. One for the single door and one for the double. Only problem - pushing the "light" or "open" button on the pad for the double door, opens both doors and turns on both lights. Oops.

Anyone experience this? I'm thinking it's a wireless single issue/confusion.

Thanks.
