With R410a going away in 2023-2024, has anyone installed an R32 mini-split (or central system) in their home or garage? Not a fan of R454b as a drop-in replacement due to cost, efficiency, etc. The world outside of North America has been using R32 cooling since 2012 and the only place I see it is with window or portable AC units or on the Daiken website. The Mitsubishi MSZ-LN or MSZ-EF lines (both R32 systems) are not available for purchase here in the US.

Yes...the new refrigerants are slightly more flammable but unfortunately R410a is going away soon. At some point in time, you won't be able to buy R410a. Not a big deal for a window unit but if you've just spent $10k on a Trane variable speed system, you'll want to keep that running for 10-15 years. According to Lennox, the drop in replacement for R410a (ie, R454b) is more combustible than R32..... https://www.coolingpost.com/world-news/lennox-backs-r32-as-optimum-replacement/

Europe has used propane as a refrigerant for years. Leaks are not generally a problem as they leak so slow to cause a fire or worse, an explosion.
