I have started using galvanized sheet metal in my "Very" slow shop build interior. The inside is a disaster but I am slowly organizing everything the way I like it. Diamond plating is too expensive for my tastes but the galvanized gives me a cool shine with some nostalgia which is what I am trying for. My building is basically a 30'x30' pole barn with a concrete floor. it will be separated into the metal working/automotive side then my woodworking/"GUY" side. I like the wainscoating because it gives me a kickplate of sorts. Also around the welder and grinder I shall all the way up to the rafters to avoid spraying sparks onto a wood surface. Safety first! My suggestion is to put at least a cheap 3/8" plywood under the sheet metal first. Two reasons why, first it will help get rid of the annoying tinny sound of the sheet metal and second, it will give a wide variety of spots to attach anything you may want with much better support. I have only done part of my walls but I made a overhang in the middle of my front wall to hide a few lights and will add some of my "nostalgic" tools as time allows. Here are a couple of pics of my overhang. As I slowly organize and budget allows I hope to add more pictures over the next several months.

we've got a customer thats using it in her kitchen in her home, looks good so far. It usually comes to us with some kind of oil on it but here lately has not had it so we've seen lots with what the sales rep calls "white rust" where the stuff used to galvanize it draws moisture and leaves a white film on the metal that you cant hardly get off.
Marauder - they make a j - channel thats galvanized that you could use to trim the edges of the metal you have up. looks good!

How did you trim it out? What size boards?

All trim, beams and railings are site cut cedar. We basically cut 2 X 4's & 4 X 6's to meet our trim needs. The battens that were locally available were too thin and not wide enough for my needs, so we made them ourselves. The rail and beams were 4 X 4's, 4 X 6's and 6 X 6's.

I have used galvanized sheets myself for a variety of purposes and i have found it to be of great use. These sheets are quite cost effective and are easily available at great prices. So, if you are looking to purchase these sheets then look for the deals available for you online.

Recently, choices of materials have expanded considerably. While hardwoods and veneers have long been most popular, there are now more economical choices. Some of these include recycled PVC planks, the beadboard material mentioned above and even something that closely resembles actual exotic wood on sight but is made from polyurethane.
