I have both a Fluke 87 and a UEI DM515...... They are both very good meters BUT I am a "Long time Fluke Guy" and both meters are accurate except the UEI is more accurate in the temperature setting where the Fluke is not as accurate. A well built calibrated meter that can stand up to every day usage is a "must have" and Fluke gets my vote...... UEI is my second vote.

The UEI meter is excellent meter in the under $150 category where the Fluke with comparative features is close to $400. A few guys I know have jumped over to Fluke after owning UEI meters...... I guess that "you get what you pay for" in test equipment especially when it gets everyday use.

BTW! "IF" you are NOT using a meter on a regular basis in the field, buy the UEI and spend the savings on something else that you want.

I've got a UEI that was used about 15-20 years ago when it was given to me. And when I say used, I mean well used by an HVAC tech who apparently drug it behind his truck. It looks rough, but somehow still works. If it quit tomorrow, I wouldn't be surprised or have any complaints. Knowing the tech who it probably belonged to, I'd say he mistreated it because it wasn't a Fluke.

UEI is a good brand. They make one of the EEVBlog multimeters, the 121GW. Dave (the EEVBlog guy) has talked a lot about how great UEI has been to work with and that they have been very interested in making the best product they can. I don't have any myself though. (I want a 121GW, but dangit I have probably like 6 multimeters already)

Unfortunately the DM515 isn't on the giant EEVBlog multimeter chart https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/multimeter-spreadsheet/

but maybe you can still use the chart to compare the DM515 specs from whatever source against meters on the chart?

I used to represent UEI and have a bag full of their meters still. I have always found UEI to be a good meter for the money. They have been reliable. I think in climate control the market is Fluke, UEI and Fieldpiece. I always liked the DM383 and cousins. Autoranging is great, but I still prefer to pick a range on the dial. That largely because I am easily confused.

I've had reliability issues with a bunch of different UEI stuff supplied by three different employers. Fieldpiece seems well received by guys I know that like the multifunction adapter type of meter. My personal 1986 Fluke 87 was flawless until it got stolen in 2003. My Fluke 179 has been perfect since then.

I had both good and bad experience with UEI multimeter (False Reading, Screen goes blank). Right-now I've a fluke multimeter and it's good. UEI models are little cheaper than fluke models. So, if you use multimeters occasionally, go for UEI models. However, i'll suggest you to go for fluke.
