Going through my list of vendors for a kit and don't really see much about these folks. Kit seems like a good deal and i am getting a small discount which is nice. Anyone have any experience with them and/or build threads?

The builders I've seen and spoken to either don't cover my area or don't use building methods I think are important to me. Five star seems good but they don't come out my way.

It depends on many factors. Why?

updated...

To answer this in a more resonable way....

Depends on..

1. What they will do
2. How they will do it
3. How much they want to do it.

I have not done anything yet, so I'd need a complete turn key building from ridge vent to fill and everything in between, otherwise I might as well do some of it myself and hire bits and pieces out. I can do that now.

I want the thing to be built with what I consider best practices, not what saves them time and materials. I've been told from a couple of builders, the truss supports are nailed to the posts. I mentioned notched beams or at least bolts, the response is usually, we can do bolts but that will be extra. Others won't tell me if the design meets local wind load requirements and I need to hire an engineer. I find it disturbing that a professional builder cannot tell me their design can or cannot handle a wind load.

I'm on a strict budget. I don't want them to tell me half way through I need to pay more, cuz it's not going to happen. My budget is my budget, if they cannot stick within that, then there is no reason to talk. That's not a dig on anyone, just reality. The reality probably means I am on my own. I understand they are in business to make a living, but I'm in the business of not throwing away money if I can sweat for it.

Way too many things have spiked in price over the last several years because people aren't able or willing to get off their butts and the "pros" are more than willing to take advantage of that. This of course includes the so called "kit designers" but the simple fact is, I'm not a structural engineer and so I need to farm that part out to make sure i don't build something that will kill me or anyone else (as long as I follow the plans).

If 5 Starr did work your location, what likelihood you would use them (or another similar priced contractor if good building methods) rather than DIY ? Marc

At one point you said "Call this guy, he'll take care of you...". When I called, i got "We don't work out there". Do you know something I don't?

I did call Joey , and he asked you to call him. Marc

Fair enough, just thought there might be a secret handshake I missed. Don't get me wrong I appreciate the help, just haven't found anyone around that will build like I expect.

Is the "Call Joey" new or are you referring to the last time? I'm happy to call him but i don't want to pester him only to have him tell me the same thing again.

Thanks
