but I cannot figure out how to get large photos to post. I've got them on Photobucket and have resized them but no matter what I do they show up too small.

I apologize for wasting a thread on this but I've tried searching and everything else I can think of. Will someone put me out of my misery.

Please post on how you are attempting to post the photos, and hopefully someone can tell you what you are doing wrong.

Are you using this?
IMG for bulletin boards & forums in Photobucket?

Clickable thumbnail

Full size - left click until the text turns blue then copy and paste on the GJ post?

Are we supposed to vote on it ???? Don't feel bad, I tried submitting pics from the picture file on computer. Would not work . Looked it up and read about resizing. Well I somehow figured it out to shrink to 75%. Well it worked . Next time did same sh%%, gave up, just turned up fail. Go figure.
Thanks for asking and you professionals for answering. I gotta get some picture to try again. GOOD LUCK LL !!!!!!!!!!!

You no longer use the "Manage Attachments" when you're posting pictures using PhotoBucket. You have to get the address for the image (see Jim VonBaden's post), and put it between two pieces of code that you type:

I remember when I first learned it being very frustrated with it -- I'm not sure why, but it was tricky to get my head around until I'd done it a couple of times.

If you click on the square yellow icon with the mountain in it, it will place the HTML
[command][/command] brackets in the post for you and you just "copy" and hit enter.

Another little bit of useful technique is to space your text at least one line away from the

I'm glad to have the company!

I too had major issues trying to post pics,
then some one suggested resizing them using
"Irfanview"
make em smaller and presto, it works!

good luck!

My PB account has an email tag as well as those three in the screenshot above. I don't use the GJ image buttons, I just left click on the PB image tag (it changes to "copied") and then right click and paste straight into a post on here. Submit the post and there's the image.

If you use the manage attachments feature to upload photos directly to the GJ site, you can still show them full size. There are a couple ways, one is to put them in your personal album and then cut and paste the link from there. I usually put it right in my post, then edit the post to paste the full size picture into the body of the post.

I remember when I first learned it being very frustrated with it -- I'm not sure why, but it was tricky to get my head around until I'd done it a couple of times.

Same here, it boggled my mind the first few times I tried it. Once I found out how, I was like that wasn't hard.

Where'd you go man ?

I'm going to post a reply and move this thread up despite the fact that it will remove all doubt as to my idiot status.

Thanks for all the replies and I've tried every suggestion but the photos are still showing up smaller than I'd like.

I resize them in Photobucket but they don't get any bigger on GJ. I've got a build thread going over in Garage Gallery under The Concrete Underground if that helps anyone figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks again and I'll let this pathetic thread die after one more try, I promise.

Don't feel bad LLWillysfan, we've all been there. Although there is a "Test" area where you can try stuff out without all eyes on you, I think you are doing the right thing by posting in the "General" section because you will actually get help from the members.

Since I have not used PB before, all I can offer here is that on Flickr (which I have used for posting photos to other websites), there were a multitude of links to choose from to display your image in different sizes. Perhaps PB is the same and you are choosing the wrong one.

If you decide to upload directly to GJ (as I do), there is a limit to the size of the image file uploaded, about 146kB in the case of jpegs. If you exceed this at all, GJ will downsize it automatically to a VERY small image, so it is important that the size is checked beforehand. With 145KB or so, the thumbnails can be expanded to a reasonable size if the reader is interested in seeing more detail.

Good luck - we are all interested in seeing more of the concrete build!

It is because the size he checked or resized it to. Have him check the settings in PB and check the 3rd down for 15 inch screens.

Thanks to all. My poor photographic skills notwithstanding, I seem to have acquired the basic skills to post pictures of decent size. I'll offer a few comments for the other 'idiots' out there.

Of the various methods offered by more knowledgeable members, I find the easist is simply to copy and paste the IMG code.

My biggest struggle seemed to be picture size. I'm not sure if it's just me but I experienced a lag from the time I resized a photo in Photobucket to when the change appeared on GJ.

This caused me a great deal of confusion and frustration as I made changes that seemed to have no effect. If I waited a bit, the picture sizes changed.

What seems to be working is to load the pics into Photobucket, resize them, copy the IMG code and copy the code directly into the post.

Seems simple enough now but then again, I'm an idiot. Thanks again to those who helped out.

You definitely are not alone.....

There's another way you can do this too without using an outside source like photobucket, and that's to upload them here, onto this site in your albums, then copy paste the image info from there. To do that, open the pic, right click on it and click properties, then copy the url info complete and paste it into the IMG tag on your post (the little yellow square with the mountain in it). Easy peasy, although I do resize them with Irfanview first. I find 600X800 gives a good clean image (especially if you use the "sharpen" feature when you resize) and is a fairly small load for the site - it uploads quickly.

I hate photobucket, flikr and all those outside photo repositories with the white hot passion of a thousand suns!

You get to your albums under User CP here on this site, it's where you filled out your signature and personal info....I think they limit you to 1,000 photos, should be about enough!

I have about 6,000 photos on my Photobucket account. I pay the $20 a year for the unlimited bandwidth (I am on several highly populated forums, and have a business that uses it), and am quite happy with Photobucket. There is a setting on the Photobucket site that allows you to upload phots at full resolution, but that will automatically resize them for posting on forums. I use 640X480 resolution. It comes out pretty good sized.
