Applying a Snap-On emblem to a KRA62C

I just got a great deal on a KRA62C I found locally on CL. It's practically unused but the Snap-On emblem is pulled halfway off the box. I can see that it is fixed to the lid with prongs that go through the sheet metal face, but I have no idea what's on the backside because another piece of sheet metal is tack welded over the void. Has anyone got an idea of how to repair this correctly instead of resorting to glue?

Thanks

Thanks, but there has got to be another way to apply the prong-back logo without using tape. I just need to figure how to secure the prongs when I can't get to them.

Remove the badge completely, see if the prong has broken off. Otherwise it could just be missing the plastic insert where the prong sits in. That plastic should be available from an automotive paint/body supply. I've used with great success, a hot glue gun and taped the badge in place while the glue dries.

Yea. You have three options. The emblems use two plastic staked pins that fit thru the two holes in the box. The pins likely have barbs on the back to hold the badge secure.

It sounds like one of the pins has broken or the gromet that it snugs into has broken or pushed out teh back side..

First option is to gently pry badge out to see if pin is still in the hole. If so, you can gently pry the badge off and then pull out pin and re-glue pin to badge. I'm gonna guess that pin, if broken, has fallen down to the bottom of teh box. And if you reglue pin, it may not survive the reattachment. They are pretty brittle.

Option two, if option one does not work is to pull badge off and , as mentioned above, break off other pin and use 3M trim and badge adhesive tape to put the badge back on. The stuff is professional, I have several boxes that have badges applied that way and it's so clean no one would no the difference.

Option three is to just go buy a new %^&* badge. BUT, once you price one out , don't be suprised of the cost.

The 3M adhesive trim tape is what I'd do, but if that's gonna keep you up all night by not being all "OEM", I'd just buy a new badge. Your OCD will thank you.

DanCo, jjjrmx5, thanks for the help!

How'd you guess that OCD plays into this little saga? :D

I just contacted Snap-On and they informed me in the politest and most apologetic way possible that I can go pound sand. Apparently only a dealer may order an emblem.

I don't see the trucks around here all that often, but I'd be overjoyed if anyone has an inside line to the correct emblem.

Found on eBay all day long from 20-60 depending on which emblem you are looking for. The dealers price is going to be over 60 I can guarantee you that.

Hahahaha. That is where the badge/emblem "sticker shock" comes into play for used box buyers.
I tried to track down a badge for an older service cart I used to have and the badge from S-O was almost $75. ****. I can buy new OEM Porsche 911 emblems cheaper than that. :)

That's why teh remove and reapply with trim tape like any automotive badge suggestion from me.
