Applying Sealer to New Slab: How Soon ?

How long should a person wait after a new slab is poured to seal the concrete?

This will be a working shop where welding, grinding and steel on concrete impacts will be common place.

Just looking for a sealer to help minimize concrete dust and staining.

It all depends on the type of sealer you want to use. Some densifiers (tecnically not a sealer but acts like one) and siliconate sealers (these are penetrating sealers) can be applied within hours of the pour.

Some penetrating sealers and all film forming sealers need to wait a minimum of 30 days for the concrete to cure before application of the sealer.

So, tell me more. Something that soaks into the pores of the concrete and doesn't just flake off would be most excellent.

I am looking at Santa Cecilia granite countertops or a New Venetian Gold granite slab.

Are these granites that need to be sealed?

28 days is a generally accepted rule for conc to cure but no one really knows,,, it's 1 of the test periods for conc strength & has been adopted as a timeline for staining,,, since stainers usually need 2 days to load their trucks, its been convert'd to 30 days for them,,, if you know what you're doing, earler's ok, tho.

You should ALWAYS do what the manufacturer says. It doesn't matter what anyone else says or how special and smart you think you might be. The company that makes the product calls out their rules and if you want any sort of warranty or help if an issue should arise then you better do what they say.
