Approx garage costs question

I am very close to getting my 48W x 26D x 12H detached garage built. Getting ready to get some estimates. Curious about what you think costs would be for this. It is 1248 sq ft.

Some details of the plans:
a) It can't be more than 26 deep as the prop line setback would require a variance - don't want to screw with that. I can live with 26 ft depth. Side prop line has lots of room, not near the limit.
b) Metal roof and stucco exterior walls so it matches the house. 2x6 walls as I live in snow area for better insulation. Insulated slab is planned, no radiant heat. Forced air heating run off separate smaller (100 gal??) propane tank than my house (500 gal). I won't keep it warm all the time, so forced air seems the best for quick heat-up.
c) Planning for two 16-18 ft wide x 10 ft high insulated double garage doors along the front. One 3 ft side access door and possibly side window or skylights.
d) Requires about 2-3 ft of excavation towards the back, I live on a hill slope. The removed dirt will be used to direct water runoff around the side of garage.
e) Will have water and 220v electric run out to the garage, but will not have bathroom or sink. Just a hose bib.
f) To save money I am going to finish the interior and do the insulation myself. I will also add a lot more electricl outlets and lighting.

I fully understand that material and labor prices vary in different parts of the country. Also understand that my champagne taste does not meet with my beer budget. I can't really build it myself without taking way too long, I need it done so I can start using it and have a place to work on my cars. Basically a signed off permitted structure that I can then make more useable and save some money by finishing it out myself.

Given the info, anyone have some rough estimates on costs? $/sq ft or total costs, just something to give me an idea what to expect. Thanks for any help, Terry

Recent experience here. Just poured footers this week. Also had to build a stem-wall, as ground is not level. I'm doing concrete block all the up though. I have 28x28, hip roof, vaulted ceiling, 16x7 roll-up door and 1 man door, 3 windows, rough in plumbing. I'm looking at $26k right now, and I'm finishing the interior myself. Floor will probably be $1k to color and seal it.

Excluding labor, I figure I have between 40 and 60K in my 30x60. It is amazing how things add up quickly. Building cost about 22K, including 2-16x10 doors, and a man door. Site/foundation was easily $14 K once done.

And, I did virtually all the work (site, and building) myself. I did have a contractor do the slab (did an excellent job, too...) and he 'supervised' my site prep so I got it right. Lot of hours on the tractor/loader.

The little things add up quickly.

So if you are paying someone else to do the work, figure double those numbers.

My new 30' x 40' x 12' was $13,700 plus $3,000 for dirt work that I hadn't considered when I priced it. It's built with 6" x 6" poles every 10' and 2x6 boards spanning horizontally between the poles. The 2x6 boards are about 3' apart. The rafters are about 5' apart. It's covered in metal sheets and has a 4" fiber reinforced concrete floor with rebar in 2' x 2' squares. Adding electricity is next...

Your only way to get a reasonably accurate estimate for your area and the building you want with all the accessories is to call a couple of local contractors and get estimates. With what you listed there, expect a bit price tag.

Thanks for the helpful guidelines and some hints. I am talking to local contractors and will have discussions and ability to talk with them to understand costs. I just want to make sure my budget is close to what I want. I have a budget of $40K to get the bldg done without the interior or insulation, so need to keep it simple and lower cost of possible.

One contractor already gave me a quote that was about $40/sq ft, which is over my budget. Have a few more that I am talking to within the next week. Hope they can do better or I have to make it smaller, can't exceed my budget by $10K.
