I'm headed out to look at a vice this morning, an older Yost 204. The jaws are cast in place, but are supposedly in pretty good condition.

Anyone have any idea approximate vintage, or other thoughts on the value of these?

I'm not so sure the jaws are cast in place they look replaceable to me. The vise probably dates from the 1940s-1970s and looks to be nice and clean.

Yeah, they don't appear to be visually, but I think he said they weren't removable. When did yost stop making them in Meadville?

Went and checked it out, was misadvertised. Same model, but older with non replaceable jaws. The price was right, so I picked it up anyway. In pretty good condition given the age, including the jaws.

I'll strip and repaint it, and get it back to use!

Yost has been in Holland Mi. for 35 years, before that they were in Muskegon, Mi. for 10 years, prior to that, they were in Meadville, Pa, the original factory.

$65. Not bad since I was just about to spend twice that on a new craftsman professional vice from sears. I like the history of something older like this.

I may try to clean up the jaws a bit more, but they're totally usable compared to some others I've seen.
