I have bought one to use in our home. I am usually a big fan of having RO water and I still have one in box I have not installed at the current house. Our tap water is very good TDS around only 30. This filter works really well and no need for RO in my opinion. The filter unit is a bit flimsy but so far so good. The first couple jugs taste "sweet" so just dump it out.

Odd. Why not?

I suppose you could use the potassium based softener, would that be better than salt?

RO is great- state of the art for cooking- and car washing. ;)

I have the aquasana 3 phase under-sink filter (not reverse osmosis). its got to be at least 3 years old by now. Filter replacements seem to be a bit expensive but otherwise we're very happy with it. Especially when I see how nasty the old filters look when taking them out.
We have public water by the way. We also have a vacation home and are planning on installing an RO filter for that water (well water). Aside from aquasana, other quality brands are: Apec, iSpring, and Waterdrop. The waterdrop one is cool as it takes up very little space but its very expensive.

tbrady's post sounds awfully suspicious on a 4 year old post, joining and making one post about a product...

But since the conversation is revived, we have an Aquasana system waiting to be installed. Bought it during a sale for the new house(under construction still). I also installed a Waterdrop system under the kitchen sink for drinking water. I like that is is very compact, but as frankd said it is expensive and it looks like the filters will be too. It is also a small water pump, it sounds like an RV waterpump turning on when drinking water is requested and it takes a second for the flow to get to 100%. The benefit is that I will have 80% of under sink storage free and no tanks and spider web of hoses and filters.

I didnt even realize how old this thread was when I posted. Definitely seems suspicious.
