Arcdroid plasma cam

Anybody else order an Arcdroid plasma cam? I was one of the first 50 to get my order in so I got it for $600 off.
Regular price is $2499. Shipping is high at $249 but it comes from Canada. I am looking forward to trying it out as I have wanted one for a long time.

I think its a good idea and for the people that just need to cut out a one off part and don't have the need or room for a full size plasma table it would be great. I'm kind of laying in the weeds on buying one until some get out into some real world users and see what they have to say about it. Yes he is having them manufactured in China. Just hope the timing of the release of it, inflation, economy, and all the other BS going on right now doesn't kill sales.

Yes made it China. Designed in Canada. I should get mine in January. I just downloaded the free version of Fusion 360 so I will be playing with it while I wait

While a lot has gone on in the last couple of weeks, most of it is kind of boring so I won’t burdon you with it all. Production Spec ArcDroids: We are a little behind where I’d like to be but still on target for the first units before Christmas. The factory has assembled the first few Pilot units and pair of them are on the way to us now for full battery of testing and review. Pics Soon I promise! All the major components needed for the first full run of machines are now in house we are just waiting on the pilot units for confirmation and finalize the schedule. So Shipping in January is still on. If anyone wonders what it’s like to try and make this work from afar…my days starts at 3:00 AM and looks a lot like this. Thank God For Google Translate!​ ​ Omicron: Not gonna lie, this one has us a bit worried. While it hasn’t caused much delay yet it certainly has the potential to. China has some very tight Covid rules this has caused some slowdowns in transport and movement of people. In fact the whole factory staff now needs to do testing twice a week which has caused the schedule to slip a few days. We will keep you updated as things go but we are working our butts off to make sure things ship on time. That is all for now but as always if you have questions or comments please let them fly! I got mine a couple weeks ago but haven’t had time to take it out of the box. I have opened the box stared at it and cussed the issues that are keeping me from making sparks and cutting out useless things.

Yes, it seems most of the videos on YouTube are professional YouTubers that received a version directly from Arcdroid. I'm looking for someone who ponied up their own cash for one.

There are a few videos on YouTube from people them have them. There also is a forum on the Arcdroid website that you can read posts from users and get some info about the machine.

I finally got mine hooked up. Took me most of three days to figure out how to calibrate it. Still playing with the settings but it does work. I traced this leather coaster with the trace program and then cut it out.

So far I have cut out two striker plates for doors, that Texas shape and a couple circles.
So far here is my review:
The only instructions are some Youtube videos and some instructions that a guy wrote. They help but I did have to call and ask for help. Andrew the inventor, answered the phone and answered all of my questions. Because Arcdroid is so new there's not a lot of activity on the forum if you ask for help. So you are better off just calling and talking to Andrew directly...
The simple trace program is a great feature but you need to pick your points while tracing in exactly the right spot or the torch will follow your off point. For example on that Texas, up on the handle area, I got the lower point off a little so instead of having a straight side it was more wedge shaped. Depends how picky you are- for me I got out the grinder and fixed it. If you want some part made to perfection you need to draw it either on the display that comes with it or in a CAD program. I haven't had a chance to learn how to do either yet. LOL

The other thing you gotta remember is that if you clamp your plasma torch to the machine to use it, you can't remove it to make a manual cut unless you recalibrate the machine again afterwards. The video says you can recalibrate it in 10 minutes so maybe not a big deal. As much as a spare plasma torch with cable costs for my Cutmaster 40 ($400) I am probably going to just buy another plasma and leave it connected. Either a HF or Everlast. The Everlast has a CNC port if you want the torch height function. From what I have read that's a good feature if you are trying to cut warped metal.

Hey Littleboss I am sorry I did not get in on the initial purchases but still think for the price, for the size, and for the power it gives you, it is probably a good buy. I work out of my garage and do not want a full size plasma table, as I am sure space is a problem many of us run into. I had considered the crossfire setup but still it's the same issue there.

What I am curious to know in your experience is can the stylus follow your drawing path like copying a free hand draw, like as in something like a signature, or is it all point to point as you start and stop it on the stylus button? It seems like perhaps it does both, which would be amazing, but just trying to figure out the method of constructing a layout with the stylus. I'm looking probably in the next month or two buying and then whatever the lead time that is, so just researching. Thanks for any input you can offer, now that you have gotten your's setup. I've watched a few videos but still unclear on how that input works.

Hi, you can do both. Point to point works. Even on a curved object just place a point every few mm's. Or you can just hold down the stylus button and trace the perimeter. The first two things that I cut out I used thin cardboard and I traced the felt tip line that I had drew on top of my pattern. What I found here is if you don't stay exactly on the line and for example trace off of the line by 1/16" at one point it will EXACTLY cut what you traced. Next time I plan on using thicker cardboard and following along the outer edge to see if I can do a better job. Having said that the ArcDroid does a way better job than I can do cutting it by hand. Me being really picky will probably end up learning a CAD program so I can draw perfect drawing but if you are in a hurry for a part or parts and not concerned about .001 tolerances, the Cut and Trace feature is great. It will save me hours of grinding in the shop

Thanks for that feedback. I know I started trying to work with fusion 360 for some 3d printing projects and I personally hate it. Since then I started using a app on the ipad called Shapr3d and between it and the arcdroid it looks like making 2d objects and modifying them will go hand in hand. The cool thing is Shapr3d also works on Windows so I can sync all the files with it and spit out g-gode or import it as well, so should be a pretty solid tool. I'm sure I will have a few learning bumps but I figure the biggest one will be paying out that initial money to Andrew, lol.

There are videos on YouTube you can check out now. One in particular where I first saw this unit was on the Fabrats channel. They recently had a vide dedicated to learning to use it and stuff. I think there was another channel called iron resurrection where he gave some useful feedback. I think here in a month or so I am going to be placing an order but I think it is one of those things where there will be some lead time so if you really start to think about it be prepared for that. Also if you go to their YouTube channel Andrew has some videos up detailing setup and use. IT seems like a semi reasonable deal for the limited shop space it can take up and the capabilities it can give you for easy cad conversion and design. My planned setup will be an extension off my welding table since I already have a plasma cutting surface, and then I will just use Shapr3D off my ipad to design, and convert the stuff to code using the free version of fusion 360, unless I find a better conversion process.
