Archiving threads

Is there a way for admin to archive older threads so that they can't be resurrected from the dead? There are quite a few I've seen today that are being dredged up and commented on as though they're current, which can be confusing. Also, it seems like a good way to stop the spammers from adding a single-line comment to whichever old post is relevant to whatever they're shilling. For legitimate threads, a poster could simply show a link to the archived posting, as a reference, and we could all move forward.

One implementation I saw would not deter everything, but had a warning pop up you had to click through if there hadn't been a new post is some number of months.
