I have an industrial supply near work that I frequent and they have a not so big tool board on the wall of Allen brand tools. It's mostly large wrenches over 1-1/2", some 3/4" drive sockets, and other random this and that's. I asked the guy about them because it seems they never get bought, they always have the same stuff on the same pegs in the same spots. The guy told me they don't sell much and that they are no longer made. I looked on Apex website and only found the Allen-hex site. Are the Allen hard line tools still made? Maybe I am seeing old stock that they never sell, but they do have a few nut drivers and pliers as well. If they are no longer made, how long ago has Allen stopped making them?

I put a set of metric combination wrenches that ive had for awhile and never used in the classified sect and if i didnt have an impossible time finding a place that sold them to figure out what to list them for.i think everything ive seen outside of hex tools are just old stock. I actually started using the combination wrenches and they are pretty great, nice feel in your hand, tight tolerances and a really nice satin/ pebble finish and american made. Wouldnt have a problem buying some more of their handtools

Edit; some pictures of them in the for sale thread in my sig, although i decided to keep th awhile ago, just never updated it

I like the few I've used / had.

That said, their brand name makes it a real SOB to find their product on eBay.

Menards phased them out and replaced the Allen brand with their house brand, MasterForce.

Same tools as far as I can tell, just stamped with a different name.

Most Menards seem to have a few left over Allen wrenches.

US Made Allen mechanics hand tools went bye bye the same time KD mechanics hand tools said farewell a few years ago when Gearwrench began their first major expansion. Some tools like the 36 tooth quick release ratchets with the knurled handle were rolled into the Armstrong Brand.
Most stock of US made Allen is dwindling. There is also taiwan made Allen out there too.

I bought a small set of 3/8" & 1/4" drive sockets a year or so ago from Cripe Dist. to carry in my truck. The sockets had a very nice finish and the set included a beautiful fine-toothed, pear-head ratchet. Unfortunately, the ratchet binds up and is useless. I thought I'd see if I could get a replacement ratchet at Menards, but they no longer carry any Allen tools at the store I visited.

I would see if menards will warranty it since they used to sell then. You would have to take a master force in its place

Mills Fleet Farm still sells USA made Allen tools. Very good tools for the money. I've got a lot of them and really like them.

I have a set of Allen brand metric wrenches made in USA. I am wondering about how much I would ask for them if I sell them. Any suggestions?

Cripe still has a bunch of Allen brand wrenches/sockets/etc at EXTREMELY cheap prices. Most or all are USA made. I've bought a few and they seem up to the same standards as the other Apex brands. Not sure how warranty would work, hopefully Apex would still honor it and replace with equivalent in Gearwrench or similar.

From what I can tell, Allen is strictly hex/Allen tools now, my guess being that Apex is differentiating the brands that they own.

Menard's will still cover the Warranty, even though they are being phased out. The Manager in the tool dept said bring it in and thry would give me the equivalent MF replacement. (I disassembled my rachet and bent the spring and it works ok now)

You guys that have a local Menards that still stock them are probably shopping at a store where Menards is consolidating the old Allen stock.

Apex (a Bain Capital company) owns the Allen brand and they don't show any Allen rachets or wrenches on their site, only screwdriver type sets. Looks like the brand presence has substantially contracted.

+10 for Allen brand hand tools at Mills Fleet Farm!

It's a regional retailer mostly in the Upper Midwest, but they have a very good selection of these very nice USA made tools!

http://www.fleetfarm.com/search/?q=allen+tools&searchSubmit.x=0&searchSubmit.y=0

I don't know why Apex is not promoting or even bothering to feature them... it's like they don't exist, but they sure do at Fleet Farm!

They are probably made where the Masterforce USA stuff comes from, but Allen seems a little more consistent in their quality and COO.

Both good tools, but I have a slight preference for Fleet Farm over Menards everything elso being equal. The place is a throwback to the better days of retailing, not perfect, but pretty cool!

All the Allen brand tools I've bought in the past five or seven years - a set of nutdrivers and a few sets of kex keys and T-handles - were cheap imports. I knew they were cheap imports and I was okay with it. The quality was okay.

Seems ironic, but I don't think Mills Fleet Farm even carries Allen brand hex key wrenches, they are Eklind and others IIRC.

Oh well, the Allen branded combination wrenches and sockets they do carry appear to be nearly all USA made and very good quality, like USA C-man used to be.

USA made Allen hand tools are pretty much 99.9" USA RP grade craftsman. I have a few Allen tools, but after breaking an impact adapter and finding it impossible to warranty it without the original receipt, I'd only buy stuff that I would never see breaking.
