I don't know the answer to your question. However, $175 would be a LOT of cash for a wrench set made in China or Taiwan. Which set are we talking about? Link?

I'm looking for a pretty decent set along the lines of Williams, SK, Armstrong and us made is mandatory for me. I know there's probably Taiwan sets as good out there and people will argue but I would rather spend a bit more to have them made here.

Look up the set you want on Proto's website, if they are USA there will be flag off to the right side under the product description. Move your cursor over it and it'll say "Made in the USA". If it isn't there they are imported.

If you're looking in the catalog they also have 2 different flags, dark grey for USA with global components, black for made in USA.

On the website just move your cursor over and it'll tell you which it is.

Duh, can't believe I missed that! Thanks! I found an old thread about them going overseas and got confused.

I have this set and a few other Blackhawk sets and they are great wrenches; a good upgrade over Craftsman RP's. All of my Blackhawk wrenches have been made in USA.

I've ordered Blackhawk wrenches for myself at work, and a couple coworkers like them enough to order them too. All nicely made and US so far. The ratchets one guy has are Taiwan and the sockets are US.

Aren't the Blackhawk full polish combination wrenches made in Taiwan?

The satin finished wrenches are US made but, they're a little on the short side.

Soo many choices....:dunno:

Hmmmm, don't know. I checked the website and it lists them as the same length, and made in the US. The pictures for both look identical to me however... :dunno:

And yes, I am as confused as you are
It goes into Armstrong too and has the prices!

I've always avoided Stanley, Williams and Blackhawk because of the fact they sell sets that are made both in the USA and overseas. I have also added Craftsman to that list in recent years. It's very frustrating to order online and not see "USA" stamped on the tools when they arrive. Worse yet is paying USA prices for overseas tools.

Not only that, but what coo will you get years later through warranty or if you need to replace a lost wrench.

Very good point, I'll definitely consider that.

Here's what I'm down to

The Williams are a pain to find for a good price US made. The price on there is for taiwanese I just found out.

You are over thinking this; buy a set on ebay that says USA on it and be done with it. If you end up having to warranty a standard combination wrench, you are doing something wrong.

I'm seriously considering the 11 piece set. All new wright wrenches have both wright drive and grip right? I've heard wonderful things about them and might get a smaller better wright set than a larger slightly lower quality set like blackhawk.

I have Blackhawk wrenches and they are good quality, I prefer their sockets though. Wright wright grip are better for the money IMHO
