I ordered a set of Craftsman impact sockets last month and was dismayed when they arrived...China. They must be transitioning right now because the product image on their website still showed the regular old US made sockets.

I think I saw some China impacts today, but shoturtle might be right.. I dunno though. There was one set left in the front in the old USA-flag equipped packaging. if someone wants me to pick them up or somethin, lemme know.

I was just in sears tonight and found a bunch of new china/Taiwan craftsman. I was very disappointed to see that the new flex sockets and full polished ratchets are Taiwan.

The normal chrome sockets where USA. For now..........

Who wants to bet that we will be seeing Chinese or Taiwanese Chrome sockets by the end of 2012?

I bet we will see it before July 2012. I was just in sears a few months ago and almost everything was still USA, now their are more china then USA. They changed over quick. If the sockets make it until 2013 I will be very impressed.

I just hope the craftsman pro screwdrivers don't go anywhere. That is the last of my cman tools I like.

(PS: the new stubby wrenches are horrible. The pictures I seen on this forum don't show just how horrible they really are)

You mean the lobster claws? HAH! They're rediculous. We still have a US made set there.. looks much better. I'm not one to pick over aesthetics too much, but man, the chicom ones look horrid. If I need a stubby wrench or something I prefer to buy a single off the shelf, made in somewhere, USA.

For real. I don't mind china tools. In fact, most of my tools are duralast. However, you can't take a tool as nice as the USA craftsman pros and replace it with one that looks worse then the **** HF sells. (stubbies only)

The strangest part of my sears trip, IMHO the Taiwan RP ratchets looked and felt better then the newest USA ones. :lol_hitti

I was at Osh last weekend and all the Craftsman chrome and impact sockets are USA made. The impacts look to be very high quality.

The new RPs are made in China...i saw several with severe chrome issues, and a couple that auto reversed right out of the box.

Your prob right about that. I cant remember if china or Taiwan.

Evey one of the USA RP's I had, auto reversed out of the box. I thought that was a standard feature of the RP ratchets. :lol_hitti

I thought they felt and looked better. They had less slop, nice looking chrome and a metal reverse lever. But thats just from playing with them in store. I doubt they are better.

Sorry to say it, but I heard they were discontinuing to Craftsman Pro screwdrivers from a buddy that works at Sears. That's a bummer because they are good screwdrivers, I would put them on par with my SO Instincts.

Maybe I should get a set before they run out.

Would not be a bad idea as they are nice. I will say though that impact sockets are one thing that the chi-coms seem to do pretty well with. I have seen impacts from H.F, Lowes, etc. take a beating and keep working after years of hard use.

Ebay'ers split up the large sets and sell them off individually. If not I can look at my local Sears to see if they have them, I'm going by tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm going through my box and taking back anything that is boogered and having it replaced with USA stuff before its all gone. Sears is going to be the new Montgomery Ward's before too long.

The wife-to-be and I went to JC Penny the other day (they've been upgrading stores, changing pricing, etc). It was quite refreshing. Afterwards, we went to Sears. Her first comment after we got to the store was "It wouldn't surprise me if JC Penny put Sears out of business soon."

I made the remark that Sears used to be the every-man's store, but they keep shooting themselves in the foot, almost as if they're doing it on purpose. Keep in mind that this was the day before Valentines Day - the store closed early with no notification, just a single announcement "The store is now closed - come back tomorrow." Sears is swamped with bumbling idiots. The shaggy haired kid attempting to sell tools almost reminded me of Justin Bieber - The kid acted like he's never seen or used a tool in his life.

Sad, but if Sears goes extinct, I hope someone reverts Craftsman into the fine US made tools they used to be. If only the execs could see how much brand loyalty it takes to go back to a place that continuously ***** in almost every aspect. It was sad talking to a lady from customer support the other day and finding out that she had worked for Sears for 27 years, and couldn't believe how horrid the stores were getting. Truly unfortunate.

Sears will end up being a case study in economics textbooks before too long.

I just recently ordered a craftsman 52pc 1/2dr impact socket set module. When I picked up I was handed a china made set. Man said thats all they had in back.

I was taking to front counter to return it, but saw a U.S.A made one on the shelf. I was able to swap out the set.

Most of the open stock impact stuff is all china as well.

Wont be long before all chrome sockets also.

$%^&*( Really? Now the impacts are outsourced? I was hoping to pick up a set this weekend. =(

That started to happen right before XMas around here Stuey.

I had visited many of the local large Sears stores in my city while on shopping runs in most city areas and most had a mix of USA stock and new Chinese made impact sockets in the 3/8" and 1/2" drive sets.

Now all but the one or two sets on the very back of the hang peg are the newer Chinese sourced sets.

The slower teh store turnover, the more liekly the prescence of the old stock USA sets of course, but it was indeed a sad day when the rumours I heard here on GJ became facts. :(

As for teh C'man Pro screwdrivers, I know the smaller stores are liquidating thier slow selling stuff, but every store mgr. I have talked to said the more common sizes and sets (P0 -P2 and 1/8"-3/16" flat blades) are here to stay for some time.

I've noticed most Kmarts don't burn through many tools. If you're looking for old US stock, check there.

Very true IF you can find a Kmart that keeps its tool section stocked. Kmart doesn't burn through many tools, just shopper patience and shareholder equity.
