I wasn't sure where to ask this, so I figured here would be the best

Anybody have any suggestions for gloves to wear when pulling weeds? I'm not usually a glove guy, but I do use them for the picker weeds. I'm having trouble finding a glove that the weeds won't penetrate but also lets me have full functionality of my hand, unlike the thick cow hide gloves.

Any ideas? I do have larger hands.

Are those the stinging nettles you need gloves for? I use the cheap split leather gloves from HF. They have leather on the palms and fingers but are cloth elsewhere. https://www.harborfreight.com/leather-industrial-work-gloves-5-pairs-66287.html

The more you wear gloves, the easier it is to wear them. Rough dirty jobs are what HF cheap gloves were made for.

I hate pulling weeds, and always use one of these.

I'm interested to see what others post- I've pretty much settled on using very thin Atlas gloves for most everything except really pokey stuff. I'd rather adjust my techique if possible to grab the stem where it's not as developed (down near the root, or between the thorns) than rely on the glove.

For rough work (blackberry, honey locust, Canada thistle) I wear the thickest leather gloves I can find (Wells Lamont full- grain cowhide, the last time around... Chinesium leather), and expect that a thorn or sticker will find its way through a seam eventually. I don't think you can get dexterity and a lot of hand protection in one glove.

I like my goatskin gloves for this. Goatskin is much tougher than cowhide, but is also only maybe half the thickness. They can still get penetrated by thorns though. I have thorn proof gloves, but those severely limit your dexterity.

Lately I've just been using a decently heavy (8 mil) nitrile glove. No irritation to the hands from allergens and plenty of dexterity...only downside is you have to be careful (or throw on the cow hide glove) when doing prickly weeds.

I can't find a picture of the weed online. I had a job last weekend where I filled up 10 compost bags with these things. 90% were over 4' tall. I have a set of gloves from Walmart that have been my go-tos. The palms and finger faces are hide, and the rest are fabric. I had to pay attention to how I grabbed the weeds. It wasn't a huge deal, but I was just wondering if there were something that fits all of the criteria that I feel would make it a little easier.

I actually just bought these last night after I started the thread. I had a pair that were like these a few years ago that I used to use for splitting/stacking wood and I loved them. I'm going to try them for these weeds.

Generally I like the canvas gloves with rubber dots all over them.
Nitrile rubber gloves for use during cleaning or painting.
Thin leather gloves are hard to beat for all around resistance to wear and heat.

For driving in the winter months I prefer Nomex pilots gloves. Thin enough to allow alot of dexterity, are heat resistant, and not bad for keeping your hands warm. Find them at your local military surplus store.

Maxifoam nitrile-palm gloves combine the best fit best grip. Found a bunch at an estate sale, grabbed a dozen pairs. Work great.

ROC by Magid makes these kevlar-enhanced gloves that seem phenomenal. Asked a guy at Trader Joes what gloves he was wearing, and he told me ROC's. He said it's very resistant to cutting, then - taking his razor box cutter - ran it across his palm 2 or 3 times! :shocking: He wasn't fearful, and no slits were left. Not pushing hard mind you, but still. I was sold.
