are master mechanic tools any good?

i stopped in at a local mom and pop hardware store and they have this brand. the screwdrivers say made in usa as well as the sockets. the ratchets and wrenches could say the same but i didn't get a good look since they were behind glass.

Master Mechanic is True Value's house brand. It must have been a slow store if they still had a lot of USA stock left. My local store has all imported **** now, with the exception of a few odd sized sockets still being USA. I've had some older Master Mechanic stuff that was USA made, and it was pretty good quality.

yeah they have a lot of those tools that say made in the US. no deals though, they have them priced right around husky or craftsman prices.

My first tool set I got when I was about 8 years old was a master mechanic set.
I still have the ratchet and most of the sockets! I actually just used the 1/4 inch ratchet today. They're pretty good. Not as refined as your more expensive stuff, but reliable enough to use at home

They aren't tool trucks.

If you can get USA tools I'd say go for it. It's likely older stock.

That's what we call "old stock". Despite the name they don't do anything different; tools don't go bad, they might rust but if they ain't rusted they're good to go even if they were manufactured before you were born.

I worked at a True Value hardware/lumber store while in high school 88-90 and back then it was US made and looked pretty nice. I still have some of the stuff and use it without fail.

I have a pair of USA Master Mechanic vise grips I bought years ago and I use them almost everyday in the shop. I like them better than Irwin ones. I've had to recut the jaws a few times from spinning struts or sway bar links with an impact, but other than that they've been great.
