Are Propane Gas Detectors Reliable?

Was planning to use about 30' of Proflex CSST in a crawl space to supply a gas fireplace but have heard of Lightning causing arcing problems with it. Now I'm leary of the stuff leaking and blowing the joint up. Bonding is supposed to help with arcing but lightning is so powerful that there are no guarantee's. I'm actually more worried about lightning causing an undetected gas build up and then the potential for a major explosion than I am about a spontaneous fire. Well maintained Smoke detectors can save you in the advent of a fire but I'm not sure gas detectors are all that reliable. Any thoughts on gas detectors or should I just hard pipe it? Thanks

If you're that concerned, I'd suggest you go with soft copper roll pipe. Verify with your propane supplier, as I'm no propane expert, but I sure have seen a lot of it used with propane over the years.

Regarding the propane detectors, I don't have one...but just glancing at Amazon, they are made by the same companies that sell smoke detectors. These are reputable companies and the reviews are very good. I'd say they would work to warn of a leak.
