I have a rick mears edition snap on box model kr 557b kr 547b kr 537d. The middle box has no dividers and is nice to use the bottom box has dividers that just don't work for me. Has anyone removed them? Look to just be spot welded in and look like I could remove them. If they are there to stiffen the drawers then why wouldn't the middle box have them. This is not my main box just a overflow so definitely not overloading but would be so much more useful if drawers were not divided. Anyone else who has one I'm sure feels the same. Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about them being needed for stiffening the drawers. Think about how many boxes have bigger drawers and no dividers. As you stated, they are likely spot welded in and should be removable with an air chisel or spot weld drill bit. Air chisel may likely rip a small hole in the drawer bottom and the drill could as well. I have little experience with spot weld removal.

Don't, you will be sorry. They greatly stiffen the drawers. I have the more modern version 657 and even 655, they do not have dividers, but the drawers are thicker to compensate. I looked at a 557 that someone cut the dividers out of... Every drawer was stretched.

The middle box has no dividers and doesn't seem to affect it. I also have a Kr 1000 and some drawers have dividers and some that are same size next row down are wide open, idk if they are actually needed or not but the definitely keep you limited on arrangement.

Yes they stiffen the drawer a lot.
But how much weight will you be putting down there?
If you remove it I would drill the spot weld with the smallest drill bit that will get the job done. If the drawer bottom is not as stiff as you would like it to be then I would add a piece of 1/2 plywood to the bottom or a piece of 16ga steel. Just make it drop into the bottom of the drawer

Those are great boxes and they will handle a lot. Go for it and make it work for you

I don't know the model of my box off hand, but it is very similar to yours. I have taken some of the dividers out and nothing bad has happened yet, my drawers definitely don't sag. I can see the point where they stiffen the drawer, but it doesn't really make sense when not every drawer has them.

I just got so tired of trying to organize my box around the dividers, without them, you have so much more usable space.

Back when I was in tech school I bought an older standard 26" 7 drawer SO cabinet for school. All the drawers had dividers. I removed them from the bottom three drawers because they were in the way by drilling the spot welds. By the time I got rid of the box, it was as full as you could get it and I had zero problems. Now my comparison is apples to oranges since mine was only a 26" box vs your 33". Unless you see this box being very heavily loaded, I think I'd take the chance of removing them.
