Are T12 bulbs going away any time?

Just curious as to what the electric/lighting gurus think:

It seems like T8 fluorescent bulbs are the new thing and T12 is considered "old". Are T12 bulbs going to go away any time or is this something that's going to stick around for a while still?

T5's are the latest thing. T8's have been around for 20 years now. The commercial, industrial market gets all the new stuff and it slowly trickles down to residential.

T12s will be easier to find than R12 freon a decade after their "ban".

Since lots of people buy bulbs by the case of 20 or more, they'll be scattered around. Since disposal is complicated, they'll be on "freecycle".

Magnetic ballasts aren't being made, but my lowes has electronic ones specificially labelled for T12s.

The bi-pin connectors take T8s, they just look a little funny if you aren't used to them. Do a bulb upgrade when you do a ballast upgrade.

I would just worry about missing that quaint hum.
