I work iOn light truck and cars and i already have 8-19 in 12 point. The otherday i ran into a 30mm 12 point nut on a toyota axle. I am going to pick that socket up are there any other sizes i might need down the line?

2" 12 point socket will take the ABS ring off a Jaguar XJ8.... I wasn't about to buy the specialized "tool" for something I'll likely only do once or twice. Otherwise, it doesn't hurt to have a set of SAE.

The 30mm, so far, has been the only other big 12 pt I've needed.

No real reason to get it unless you have a need, I am "the shop" so I got it and we work on huge variety but its really rare to need it, to the point I dont keep it on my service cart and don't even keep it all highly organized.

Most auto parts stores have a single selection. I got jammed up out of town a while back and when I scored a new part bought a socket for 4$ to go with the job.

Back in the day a mechanic needed to be better prepared, now you can buy most stuff needed on demand. Shopping is so much better than it used to be, so much more competitive and can have an auto parts store drop deliver something in an hour.
I had a job in the other day that needed extra parts, instead of making the drive sat around drinking coffee and doing the general service while we waited for next parts run.
Had a Kal-Van Northstar water pump too sent with the job, no point in spending more and waiting, used it once, none of my Buds even had one and a 300$ version wont help a bit.

I learn the stores etc, if I lived in less remote area would stock way less and anytime I needed something would stop at a Walmart and get what I could as needed. I bought the 4$ single to go with the job and its a fine duplicate in a common used size,,, but I simply didn't need another r full set of 1/2 drive metric or would have scored a full set from Wallyworld for 25$, even USA at Menards not much more than that, they have singles too in common sizes, auto parts is a bit better but I wouldn't bust my but to own a thousand or more sockets just in case anymore.

I already have 5/16-7/8 sae 12 point.

I see a wide variety of cars I work in a small shop that takes whatever comes in the door. I love the change ups, it keeps work fun. I am hourly so I am not punished when I get the odd ball job that takes longer than it was calling for.

I have the vw triples squares and the special 5 point torque sockets whatever they are called.

I'll probably just pick up the 30mm 12 point for now. Thanks for the heads up guys.

12pt 12mm wrench on my F-150 universal joint. I broke my SK 1" 1/2 drive 12pt on a Liebherr hydraulic cylinder piston bolt. There was something around 20 bolts holding the piston on, the socket almost made it to the end, ended up having to order a impact 12pt to properly fit. These are the only times Ive absolutely needed a 12 point anything.

19mm for the crank bolt on VW 2.0L AEG engines. I think the other sizes I've encountered have all been mentioned.
