They are to prevent spreading and racking around the door opening. I would replace them with interior sheathing that wraps around the garage door opening, over the top and down the side. This would prevent racking around the door.

Could you use a scissor lift or do you want the 4 post to store another car?
Looking to store. I currently have a QuickJack for working on the car when I need. A lift would be easier, but the main thing is storage.

So. A little less simple. K&B remodel simple: Continuous foundation or, slab on grade? Floor plan change? Historic residence? Flood plain? Intending to stay long term or, flip asap?
Good luck,
John McA

The house is a raised foundation but the garage is a slab. I don’t know what a “continuous foundation” is? It’s an attached garage with three steps up to get into the house.

Not looking for a floor change, not a historic house, not in a flood zone (well, technically all of Sacramento is a flood zone I think - I am not required to carry flood insurance by my homeowners insurance), intending to stay until I retire in 15 years, after which I want to leave California.

Greetings,
Continuous means the raised foundation is contiguous on the perimeter. Sorry, got the words confused. I'm working on a steep hill side design right now, which only a portion of the footprint low enough to the ground for conventional raised.

If 3 inches is all the clearance you need I still think it feasible to investigate separating the roof structure from the top plate and lifting it up that amount (perhaps a bit more) and re-secure. Especially if you are staying in the house for 15yrs. The lift may be in better shape than the Kit and Bath at the time of resale, may add value too.

Good luck,
John McA
