Since we're running 4 trucks and several pieces of equipment daily one of my biggest fears is a dead battery away from the shop. We carry jumper cables and i keep up on maintenance but **** happens, i've had an engine harness fail in a year old/300 hour $40k skid steer that killed the battery in a snow storm at midnight on a Sunday(thank god for Wal-Mart). Since i'm hoping to get back into drag racing/sled pulling i'm thinking about getting a full size jump box to carry in the truck with me. Not interested in the little gimmicky "pocket sized" jump packs that are all the rage. Engines range from 20hp gas up to a 7.8L diesel in our Ford dump truck with 3 batteries. Also want something that has a easily replaced battery that doesn't cost a small fortune. We have some old jump box somewhere that i tried to get a replacement battery for years ago, and the battery cost more than a new box.
Currently have it narrowed down to a Jump N Carry 770 for $150 and a Schumacher DSR114 for $170, both say they have 22Ah batteries. The JNC770 has 68" 2 gauge cables, 1700 peak, 425 cranking amps, lead-acid battery. The DSR114 has 2200 peak, 525 cranking, 350 cold cranking, AGM battery. Both have 12v outlets and USB charging ports, the JNC has a light I am leaning towards the JNC because it is available in orange and has longer cables which could be handy, but obviously putting out a little less amperage. Anybody have experience with either of em?
