Just talked to the lady selling, she says the big vise is a craftsman but doesn't know what the other is. She is asking $150 for the whole thing. I'm not even sure what the other thing is... maybe a pipe vise? Just wondering if you guys would pay her asking price or close to it?

Had to have been an ironworker who owned that thing. That is a massive chunk of structrual I-beam steel.

Looks like a smaller pipe vise, yes. The utility of the vices are limited, due to the mounting arrangement. You won't be able to really push/pull or hammer sideways on something mounted in the vices.

If you need a portable vice setup, I don't see that as a bad arrangement. It is big and definitely HEAVY though.

I'm really just interested in the normal vise but she wont let me take just that, she wants the whole thing gone. No idea if the $150 she is asking for it is a good deal though.

The vise looks like a Columbian to me. It's hard to tell what size it is, but if it's a 5" jaw or bigger then $150 is a fair price. Check the prices on new ones. You could always take it home, sell the pipe vise and scrap the rest.

buy the setup, sell the pipe vice to a plumber, take the I beam and legs to the scrapyard, keep vice that you are after. final cost I'll bet is close to free.

I think that's a hell of a deal, if you can use it. If you **** around and wait somebody else is likely to grab it. If you really want it, get right over there with $150. Try to dicker her down a little if you can, but if not pay it. Can't go wrong.

Or the alternative is to be 'that guy' – the one that doesn't act but lives in regret with hindsight.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. I'm usually the 'other guy'– the one that grabbed a good deal while other people were dicking around :)

Well I paid it. Turns out her uncle was a plumber and had passed 4 years ago. The family has slowly been cleaning out his garage, and he had a lot of cool stuff!! All kinds of home made tools. He had an air compressor in a shed out back that was absolutely enormous!! The tank was easily 6 feet long and the motor looked like it belonged in a small tractor.

Once I have a little more time i'll take pics of the vise/ beam set up.
