So what's the story, no more posting of WTB threads outside of the WTB aka Wanted sticky?

I like the sticky idea but if i need something quick i am posting up. I don't think people look around much anyway. I posted up i wanted something, and within days people had put up smoking deals that i missed.

I like the sticky idea so I can browse and see what people might need but....

I like the WTB threads with a little dialog too. They often lead to other deals, leads etc....

I don't care for the sticky idea myself. I tend to forget about the sticky's unless I happen to be searching for something in an old post.

A seperate section would be better than just one sticky with everyones wtb in the same thread. A couple days after you post a wtb in the sticky it'll be back a few pages and never been read again.

The problem with a WTB sticky is that unless you have something specific that you're trying to sell, why look in a specific place to see what others are looking for?
I think it's safe to say that most of us cruise through the For Sale section looking for things we'd want to buy.
If someone posts a WTB in the For Sale section, someone sees it as they're shopping and thinks "Hey, I've got one of those."
I don't think WTB sections work on other forums as well as intended either. I NEVER look at them, and I doubt I'm unique in that respect.
But I ALWAYS look through the For Sale classifieds. Always.

Nothing kills a site for me quicker than giving every little thing it's own section. It pigeon holes everyone, and makes the site go from broad focus where lots of people can give and get lots of knowledge, to a place where a few people give and get knowledge for specific topics.

I love the sticky idea; I've read every post in there so far, and I intend to keep reading them and trying to remember what folks are looking for. I think it's a great resource and people would be smart to use it.

That being said, I don't believe there is any new rule against creating new WTB threads.

The way I read is that the WTB sticky is for people who are collecting one or two items, kinda like you have in your signature. The sticky is for people like me who may someday want to part with some old tools and I can go looking at who wants what.

SO TRUE!! Hear the man!!

So, back to my original question...looks like WTB ads for individual items are still allowed, but that for ongoing searches, it's the Sticky Wanted thread. Is that more or less correct?

When I created the sticky, it was to answer the call made by some folks in this forum here. I didn't have in my mind a new set of rules that went with it, other than that the "Wanted" sticky would not be for discussion.

As I said, I think the sticky is a great long-term resource, and I intend to add my Blackhawk needs to it as I gather together part numbers. People should use it. But if you feel for whatever reason that a new WTB thread is more suitable for your current quest, then by all means start one up.

Worked well for me here. Several people responded, and I had what I wanted quickly.

That said, I only post them when I am ready to buy, and send payment asap.
