I've been lurking around here for a long time, I started building my shop a few months ago and thought I would share with you some of the progress. It's been very slow due to the weather and work. I started by having the house and shop location cleared then my neighbor and I milled the pines off the land for my future timber frame cabin. We also cut the siding for the shop from these trees.

Deer stand where the house is gonna go.

Called in some reinforcement! AKA "grandpa's buddy that has everything a guy could want including some massive ropes and pulleys".

Laid down behind the ol powerstroke.

Some of the clearing I did before I called din the heavy equipment. This is where the shop will sit. Just down the hill from the cabin.

Back up on the hill where the cabin will sit.
Looking to the right you can see the old "mail road" this will end up being part of my loop driveway.

Looks like a great location. Keep posting the photos of the progress and we will keep telling what a great job you're doing! Ha. It is a nice location.

It is nice to hear others input but I also like the idea of this thread being something I can look back on! Hopefully you all will have some helpful information as issues arise further along in the build!

The operation after a few days of work. Siding is stacked to the right and the beams are out of the picture on the left. It is amazing what this bandsaw mill is capable of!

The pictures may be a bit out of order. While the milling was taking place we were also setting post, spreading gravel and building forms!

Digging holes. The main structure is a post building but the end walls are framed up. I had my reasons for doing it like this. It seems to be working pretty well!

Thank's guys! I am South of Little Rock in the Ouachita Mountains. I was planning to start on the roof tomorrow and work through Sunday but they are calling for rain. I am doing 3-inch vinyl back insulation (much like what you see in metal buildings). I have never done a metal roof. Any pointers?? I'm sure I can figure it out and have a good idea of how i want to attack it but I am always open to suggestions!

The building overall is 48x26 and the room on the end is 16x26 (this will be a glorified master bedroom while we build).

Why not put that general location in your profile (User CP) so readers don't have to find this particular post to know where you are.:D

Started on the roof around 10:30 this morning and got this done by dark. The back is to the same point as the front.

Sorry I let this fall off. I've been very busy with work and just life in general! The shop is nearing completion. It has been slow because I typically only get to work on it 10-15 hours a week and they are usually spread out, so it's not the most efficient way of building! That being said, it's paid for and I'm stoked on it : rocker:

I framed up a wall that is easily removed to cover the second large door. I wanted it sealed up tight while I am living in here but eventually I will knock the wall out and put another set of doors in where I can roll motorcycles or whatever in and work in the air conditioning.

Got lights installed and then started sheeting the shop part with OSB, the door in the shop goes into the apartment.
