I’ve wanted my own for years, spent months dealing with the city to get approval, and now I’ve finally got it, my own 660sq/ft workspace! The crew wrapped up a couple weeks ago, I spent a week or so running all the electric inside, and my electrician BIL came up last weekend to help run power from my main panel to the sub.

I spent the last week cleaning up the ground around it and spreading topsoil and sod, reinstalled the privacy fence, and added an iron gate. I’ve got a ways to go but it’s fun to see this finally coming together.

Now I just need to get my ‘49 Chevy project moved in so I can get going on that.

Nice work. We presume this workshop is in addition to a garage you already have?
Indeed, there’s an attached 2-car on the house. The project truck took up the 2-car at the previous house so it was time to figure out a workshop situation when we moved.

Awesome. That’s a great shop. Please post pictures of the Chevy project too. I’m jealous I see all these garages and wish I had a garage LOL.

Nice set up! looking to seeing pics of the 49 project!!

Here’s the truck before I started taking it apart. It currently sits with just the cab on the frame in a storage building. As soon as I get the shop settled I’ll finish separating the cab and frame, and get the frame ready for blasting and powder coating.

This truck was bought new by my great grandpa in ‘49 in the town I grew up in. It’s been in the family ever since so I look forward to the day it’s running and drivable again!

Nice looking shop. I like the lean to porch of the side. How long does the porch remain in the shade during the day. Great place to take a break while working through a problem.

It stays in the shade the majority of the day, till late afternoon. Definitely a nice place to sit and relax for a bit.

Nice shop, I like the light arrangement it seems to cover everything. That 49 looks very straight, I'm interested to find out what you do with it. Original, Resto-mod, Lifted, Slammed, Full Racing, it's all good with me as long as you are enjoying it and keeping it out of the crusher.

A quick update now that the sod is looking good and we’ve got stuff moved in. Still not exactly how I want it but I’ll keep playing around with the arrangement. Eventually the front door and porch doors will be painted green to match the front and back doors on our house.

That plane is gigantic! Is it a model of the one in your profile pic? That thing must be a blast or terrifying, or possibly both, to fly.
Yep it’s a 1/4 scale model of the one in the profile, a Piper J3 Cub. The real thing is a blast, the model is one someone gave me and it flew terribly to be honest. I’ve already gotten rid of it to make more room in the shop

Nice workshop! Are there insulated panels under the siding and roof?
Check out Aces High Speed Shop. He has a modified, similar truck and the one paint buffed out beautifully

Looking good! I haven't even built my shop yet and I keep going round and round on how I want everything arranged. I'm probably spinning my wheels at this point, because I'm sure it'll all get changed again once it's built.

Yep, 1” Thermax insulation all the way around. It’s not much, but I can tell a huge difference between my shop and my cousins uninsulated shop in the middle of a hot day.

I had so many layout sketches on paper before I broke ground, and then still changed it a lot when it was finally built! One thing that came in most handy was my electrical sketch. I did all the wiring myself so it was nice to have it all on paper to figure out the cost and a materials list.

Seriously nice shop! What did the budget turn out to be, just for the building?
I’m not sure for just the building, but I was about $33k all-in. I wired it myself and then had my BIL electrician come up to help pull cable from the house and wire it into the sub panel and inspect it all, so that saved a chunk. I also supplied all of the doors and windows so that added a bit too over the roll up and steel doors they were going to supply.

Finally got around to adding some lights on the porch. I’ve been just using the string lights, but need more if I’m working on something in the evening or when folks are over. These are 4” LEDs that just clamp in to the hole (square template sticker is included), extremely simple to install. They have three white color settings you can switch through, I went with the warmest (3000k).
