Long time lurker on this site; finally have a presentable garage that I can share online.

Big thanks to Armorpoxy for giving me that tremendous discount for Garage Journal forum members. I saved on shipping as I just happen to drive down from NJ on Memorial Day Weekend.

The house was built in 2004 and I spent about 3 years wrenching and staining the concrete with fluids from various auto hobbies.

I've always envied friends who did their own DIY epoxy kits from homedepot or lowes; but I knew my floor was in worse condition than theirs.

Both friends that did do DIY; eventually had some of the epoxy come off over the years, and both did a mild grey color epoxy.

I decided to have my general contractor do all the work while I went on vacation; good thing I did, as temperatures and humidity during the grinding process was too much for me to bear.

I had installed primer since the floor was machined and opted to get the upgraded commercial grade top coat as I often drop tools while working on cars.

I spent about 10 years in the Navy and always wanted something similar in color to the PRC marine deck coating they had in my USS LastShip's messdecks.

I didn't see much of this color in this forum so I decided to post.

Here is the album- let me know what you think of the color!

So, including the floor prep, grinding, washing, primer, epoxy and top coat application; total cost minus Armorpoxy cost me about $5 per square foot.

You guys think its a reasonable price?

Depends on where you live I guess. Here in Houston, it's $3 sq/ft for full broadcast with grind, NO prime, 2 part epoxy with full broadcast & regular clear poly on top. There's plenty of competition & cheap labor though.

I'm doing it myself for about $0.95 per square (not grinding, etching only). I have way too much time off though.

Our Garage Flooring company here in Orlando charges $4.00 psqft for a grind, prime, SD base coat, flake and polyaspartic topcoat (all in). We get 5.00 + for a full-chip.

I had quotes for $3.70 to $4.60 per square foot here in Md. That included everything...grind, primer, full broadcast and top coat.

Full chip floors are coming down in price as a little innovation in chip manipulation allows for a single topcoat and still offering a smooth glossy floor. Our version of this will be released later in the summer. Very cool technology.

No idea on the price but the end result looks great. The hidden cost of course is the you now need to upgrade the rest of the garage to match.

Thank you!
Definitely will be next year's project. May include paint, cabinets, and better lighting

nice OP ... love the brightness and the finish looks super smooth ...
maybe partly due to the flake breaking up any 'drips'/lines? Looks awesome!

If you don't mind - I'm trying to visualise my own WIP - what are the dimensions of the floor space and the width of that centre pillar on the front? 19.6 ft across? wider?

Thats about right on the money. 20x20ft estimated.

What do you mean by the centre pillar? the one that divides the two garage doors?
