Armorpoxy questions

Good morning,

After countless hours reading the board I believe I have more questions than answers.

I have a 675 sqft garage that I want to epoxy with a good durable epoxy. I have used Epoxy-Coat’s product before in my current garage and even though it has been ok I am looking for a better quality product.

My concerns or problems are that the Epoxy-Coat, which was installed in 2009 and still looks ok, became dull after a while and it yellowed from UV. The kit did not come with a primer or a UV protectant coat.

I want a durable epoxy that will look good and not yellow.

I am looking at this product from the Armorpoxy’s website:

“Job on a pallet complete 3-layer system - Armor Ultra 100% solids high build”

I am not going to use flakes or anti skid.

Questions:

- Does it come with a primer? If not which one should I order and how much for 675 sqft
- Does it have UV protection or can I add something to help with the yellowing?
- I want to make sure I have enough, should I order more and how much? (I ran short last time I did this with the other product)
- Am I looking at the correct product?
The floor is bare concrete that I will grind down and prep before coating.

Nothing beats calling a vendor directly to get all your questions answered, particularly when it comes to how much material may be required. They will most likely provide additional information you may have not considered as well.

If you look at the Armor Ultra Job On A Pallet page, it clearly states all the materials, which also includes an epoxy primer.

All epoxy will amber (yellow tint) at some point, no matter what U.V. inhibitors may be added. Epoxy is not U.V. stable - period. How long it takes is dependent on the quality of the epoxy and how much U.V. light the coating encounters over time. If it's a north-facing garage that does not have the door open for periods of time, it can take years before it happens. Even if you applied a U.V. stable clear coat on top, the U.V. rays still pass through to the epoxy.

However, if you look at the materials description for the kit, it includes their Military-grade polyurethane topcoat which is tinted to the color of the epoxy. It's not a clear coat. As a result, the surface of the coating will be U.V. stable and will not amber.

The kit does not come with color flakes, but it does come with their UltraWear high wear non-skid powdered metal wear additive. You might want to discuss the characteristics of this additive with them as it aids with increased wear resistance.

Overall, it's a superior system compared to the Epoxy-Coat system you had applied previously.

I did armorpoxy. I used their 2 part epoxy primer, followed by 2 part epoxy color coat, followed by 2 part epoxy clear coat. It is a very good product. The clear coat I used was an upgrade - I think it was called military clear coat. I would definitely highly recommend their system.
