Attached is a really nice 20-903 Armstrong ratchet. I pulled it apart to get some stray rust off and lube it so I figured I would show the internals. I really like the feel of it and how it looks.

Interesting. Older Armstrong rats have a Proto-like system with two coil springs.
Yeah, dual tic-toc pawls with coiled springs are the other common older design. Now it seems like the super high pearhead rats use the "Canoe" free floating pawl system.
Here's pictures of the 3 types. The Canoe floating pawl in the last pic is broken in half, but you can still get the idea of the shape.

It's post '77, as that is when they changed their part numbers. I think they used that handle style well into the nineties or even later. That is all I know.
But I have a couple, and they are wonderful ratchets.

Betcha that puppy would take some torque!
If I had a bunch id get one of those fancy torque-o-meter things and test it to failure.
This is my only one though .
Edit it's actually an f91.
If anyone hasn't seen "project farm" on youtube check it out. He has such a systematic testing method for various things and does not accept any mfg $. Really cool channel to watch. He has a torque-o-meter thing
