Sorry if this is a retread but searches are yielding either everything wrench or a couple of useless hits.

Looking for double open end wrenches, full polish, five or six piece sets, metric and SAE, two sizes each (not angled single size). Smooth, not grip / notch /tooth types.

Are the Armstrongs any good?

Yea I believe the Armstrong line was killed.. remember people trying to ****** up ratchets a while back. I think you just need to ask yourself what you wanna spend and if the USA label matters to you. There should be options out there for you both domestic and imported.

Yes, Armstrong was shut down but there are still plenty of new wrenches available. USA or import doesn't matter. Just need to fit the criteria and be decent quality.

Looks like SK use to make a couple sets but also seem to be discontinued with some available with some searching (they look a little short though).

Considering used Snap On as well but so far nothing that falls in a price range I am after without being all beat up.

The Armstrongs fit the bill but I am wondering about the quality. I have noticed when looking at Ebay listings that some , that are supposed to be the same wrench, appear to have a narrower beam than others.

I have some Proto open end wenches which are very nice. Mine are black oxide; looks like they don't do full polish, but if satin is cool check out J3000N and J30000P-M. The metric set skips 17mm though which could be bad depending on what you're working on.

I've never owned any, but Armstrong did have a good reputation.. if your set on a USA brand, any of them will be fine.. Proto / Sk / Wright...

If imports are fine, just do a google search.. Sunex / Klutch / and an infinite number of others are available. Just pick out what you like, none of them will change your life. You'll get any number of recommendations online, but nobody is gonna own them all.

I have a set of double box wrenches I bought back in the 1980s and they are first rate. I have a few double open ends that I recently picked up at an estate sale and they are the same quality. Very nice.

You might also check for Bonney double open end wrenches. I never cared much for the open variety and tended to double box end wrenches. Bonney like Armstrong is also a dead brand but still excellent for old time quality.

Armstrong, and sisters KD and Allen are no longer being manufactured, but they are quality tools. I bought several sets of these combination wrenches over the past few years. Check Cripe and HJE for some deals on combination and open end wrenches.
warranty concerns??/ F-------art// those tools don't need any worry about warranty.
