Found a set of 3/8 SAE Armstrong Eliminator sockets and ratchet for sale locally for $20(online, cant pick them up til tomorrow). Still in the case with the foam and promotional paperwork. Looks to be in near perfect condition. I'm pretty sure that's next to dirt cheap for a set of Armstrong anything. However, it looks as though this isnt going to be usable with just any pass through sockets and will only accept Armstrong Eliminator sockets. Is that correct? On another note, the system looks amazingly simple and robust. What are your thoughts on it? Should I pick it up or should I pass and just get a set of ratcheting wrenches instead of the pass through ratchet set?

They should have an adapter in the set to snap in ,so you can use regular 3/8 drive sockets.
My set was missing the adapter,so I just use a gear from a Craftsman raised panel ratchet.
It fits inside and functions,but is not retained like the pass through adapter.

The price cant be beat for the quality of tool, check to make sure it is a complete set. Armstrong is used in a lot of commercial applications, congratulations on your find!

Thought I'd update you guys, I finally got the set in my hands today. The Arkansas river runs through this area and we were experiencing some pretty crazy mass flooding everywhere, so I wasnt able to just run out and pick it up. None the less, got ahold of my parents who live on that side of town and had them pick them up for me last week. Anyways, for $20 I'm really happy.
I was concerned, someone on this thread had said that the sockets fall out easy(think they deleted or edited). Then my parents said the same thing when they picked it up. Turns out you just gotta really press on these things to snap them in. At which point they are in there insanely well... a little too well. They're pretty tough to pop back out, I've had to use the corner of the desk or a small screw driver handle to push them out. I took the ratchet apart as soon as I got it and greased everything, functions much smoother but, I dont really know how to make that snap ring inside lighten up a bit. Oh well, I guess it will either get easier with age or I'll just know damn sure, my sockets aren't gonna fall off lol.

I've never even seen any. Got tired of waiting and substituted in Matco Special forces for the 1/4 metric. They look exactly the same except black rather then chrome.
I also like the Matco flex head ratchets, which aren't available in the Armstrong Eliminator.
I think they were made by the same manufacturer.

I have a few eliminator tools. They are used, just not like designed to be. I am in need of an adapter for the 1/4'' ratchet if anyone has one they can sell. It is the adapter that turns the 1/4'' eliminator ratchet into a standard 1/4'' square drive. Please?

It would seem that you would be better suited with normal ratchets. The bits eliminate the eliminator's pass-thru just like the adapter.
The thing I most like about the eliminator series is how low profile the set is. My 1/2 drive eliminator is *slightly* taller than a normal 1/4 drive ratchet/socket.
Getting a hex bit into a tight spot with the eliminator series gives much more room to maneuver.

Check eBay under Matco Special Forces as well as Armstrong eliminator.
The 1/4 inch sets were everywhere about a year ago,now they seem to be getting thin.
It is possible a Matco dealer in your area may have some NOS repair kits.
