Armstrong quality control????

For a sad thread, here is a funny.

Armstrong QC was excellent until the new manager hired all young women with nice buns and large breasts(like the blonde in the Hazet video). On dress down day friday, the women wear string bikinis(hot in the factory), and quality problems ensue. Zuspiel's tools were made on friday, that must be it.

BTW, SO needs you, as well. FX80 where one locking position doesn't work, two ratcheting screwdriver shanks that are too big to fit in the drivers... I must be a walking Murphy's Law...

Wow, didn't know things with SO were so bad. I was thinking of eventually picking some new stuff up off Fleabay.

You have to remember that for every defective tool you hear about here, there are thousands of others without any issues... The SO defects I've had are nothing easy to find. I used a caliper on the shanks and couldn't figure out why they didn't fit...

You have to remember that for every defective tool you hear about here, there are thousands of others without any issues... The SO defects I've had are nothing easy to find. I used a caliper on the shanks and couldn't figure out why they didn't fit...

Also -- in my experience in manufacturing, though it's not nearly with such large production as S-O or Dahaner tools, these types of problems happen. Every production line, every company has its defects.

What counts is what gets past the QC. That's the problem here.

This seems to be indeed a strange one but maybe several "checkers" were asleep at the wheel, so to speak.

The ball retainer isn't "countersunk" enough, or the hole is too small, makes the retainer ball protrude too much. That's why the sockets won't go on easy.

Gawd as I was reading this I was thinking, "Thank goodness Merk isn't QC." Then I saw his post. It is scary!

When I watch the recently posted videos of tools being made, I'm amazed at the amount of manual handling involved and the speed with which they are handled. (Also amazed at the apparent lack of interlocks to prevent hands from getting in the machinery.) I'm not surprised a few like in the OP's pics get through.

That is **** when you get poor quality controlled tool (and pay a premium for it too). I bought a set of Craftmans impact socket. I know they are made by Armstrong for Craftmans. They forgot to machine one of the socket at the socket entrance. The attached picture show the good one on the right and the quality controlled issue one on the left. There is raise material at the entrance and at some location it is very rough (difficult to see).
