Hi,

With all the talk of snap on screwdrivers or screwdrivers made in the USA;can anyone tell me about using Armstrong screwdrivers.

How is the quality of these screwdrivers do they stack up to truck brands?
Do you like using them are they comfortable in your hands?

If you like tell me about the screwdrivers that you prefer, please keep in mind that I have very bad arthritis , I am looking for something that is very easy to
hold in my hands.

Thanks Woody!

Never even seen an Armstrong screw driver (that I can think of), I've got arthritis (soriatic) as well and big hands, I think my favorite are the Klein screw drivers, the bigger the handle the better for me.

Hi Mickey,

Thanks I own several Klein screwdrivers for some reason when I use solvents the handles tend to go bad. I wonder if the Armstrong screwdrivers can hold up to solvents?

Perhaps I better keep an eye out for snap on screwdrivers;thanks again for your help Woody.

Heres some other armstrong screwdrivers on eBay. I've no idea of their quality.

Wow, good to know. All the rebranding that goes around, it's good to know what's what to save a few bucks.

Those Armstrongs over at Cripe right now are a steal! That 17" screwdriver is a $20+ screwdriver if it says Klein on it...

The Armstrong drivers I normally see are the same as Craftsman professional. Except they're blue. Most people seem to like them.

If you need some that hold up to chemicals try out the Proto duratek's.

A lot of people will never understand what arthritis is like until they have it. I have a set of Allen screwdrivers that are the same as the Armstrong value line of tools (black handles). I think they are good screwdrivers but I don't know if they will help arthritis. Armstrong had a 66-621 set of cushion grip screwdrivers that are possibly the same thing like the Craftsman Professional drivers. You might consider them for a more ergonomic feel. I also have some of the regular blue handle Armstrong drivers and they have hard handles. They are good screwdrivers but once again I do not know if your hands will feel any better regardless of what type of driver they are.

The Armstrong, Craftsman Professional, and the SK tools screwdrivers appear to be the same screwdriver. I have a small set of the Craftsman Professional and one small Armstrong slot screwdriver and they are identical.
As far as comfort, they're just okay with me, nothing special.

Have you considered a pistol grip screwdriver or a T-handle screwdriver? Take a look at this Craftsman set, I have a smaller, similar style pistol grip ratcheting screwdriver and I can apply a LOT more torque with it:

Hope this helps.

Just because it has that handle doesn't mean it's klein. Here's the original patent for it. https://www.google.com/patents/US2871899

I have a cushion grip crescent, cushion grip klein, cushion grip stanley, cushion grip pratt-read, cushion grip irwin and one that had the branding worn off and just says MADE IN USA now. They're all slightly different apart from looking the same from a distance. Most importantly in the tips. The crescent version has a thicker handle than the other brands seemed to have, but I only have the one to compare with.

I have blue and black hard handle Armstrong screwdrivers that are ok. They're not the Craftsman pro handles, but very similar to the clear hard handles. They do have better shanks than the Craftsman clear handles though. You can see these have polished shanks with blasted tips.

I will say this, I warrantied 2 screwdrivers last year with them and received Gearwrench equivalents instead.

The cushion grip Armstrongs are most likely Pratt Read also, notice the vapor blasted tips, very similar to the Ideal cushion grip drivers also made by Pratt Read.
Kleins have had black tips for the last 25 years and the newer versions have the entire profiled part of the flat blade black finished.
The Stanley's are no where near the the quality of Klein,Pratt Read above, the flat blades have serrations and are cheaply made using the same cheap blades the old black and yellow Stanley's used for years in the 2 for a $1 section of the hardware store.
The gray handled Stanley and Proto drivers are of good quality and do hold up.
