My dad has a 15" breaker bar made by Armstrong and it is very good quality. He got it from work. He used to work coal fired power plant. They used Armstrong tools all the time because of their high quality.

I won an Armstong 1/2" ratchet on ebay... but I have yet to see it, and that was a month ago.

Armstrong stuff is top notch... the quality is there, but Armstrong caters to teh industrial user, as opposed to the auto mechanic. That's what Matco is for. Both are Danaher subsidiaries, BTW.

Armstrong was intended to be like proto... industrial instead of automotive. The quality is def. there. I dont own anything by them, but my dad has a few wrenches by them, and they are pretty nice. Id say go for it. One thing to keep in mind though: thier sockets might have a thicker wall than automotive brands because of less concern for accesability and more concern for strength. You propably cant go wrong though.

I picked up an Armstrong 1/4 in ratchet today at a garage sale for $1. I've never seen one before but it sure didn't look cheap. Doesn't have the round head like SK but more the oval head like a Snap-on. Anyways for a dollar it looked like a great deal and then I came here and your comments made me feel even better!

You gotta hit the garage sales early to get the tools! I bought an air belt sander similar to this for $10 at a garage sale. You have to be the early bird to get the good stuff.

Geez I feel bad now... cause I also got a 10 pc 1/4 in drive metric Craftsman socket set for $2. They were in a short metal case that said TAIWAN, but when I slid back the top and looked at one I saw the Cman name and just slid the top back on and handed over the money.

Garage sales around here never have anything good. Thats because You can count on your fingers the number of people in this town who know how to turn a wrench

We just got a set of Armstrong combo wrenches today from McMaster-Carr. They look really nice. Pics tomorrow, hopefully, if anyone cares to see them.

My S/O are now safely locked back up:)

Bet they are really similar to any Craftsman Pro or Matco wrenches you will find.

BTW, better 3 years late that never, right???? :lol_hitti

At least you are reading the archives.

Nothing wrong with resurrecting old threads...I just bought my first Armstrong ratchet, seems tough as nails...nice finish, nice ratcheting action, funny shaped handle that looks a lot like the Kobalt ratchet handle design. Doesn't seem very comfortable...we'll see

Every now and then Enco and MSC has good prices on Armstrong ratchets for those that want to try the brand out. I only have one Armstrong wrench, and it looks to be VERY similar to Cman pros. Their individual wrenches are priced similarly as well.

Well as my icon show's I like Armstrong. Very tough and dependable tools.

They do have very unusual handle shapes, But you would be amazed at the abuse they handle.

I like all of my Danaher-built ratchets, and strongly prefer them to the Snap-On's I have...it's a feel issue. I have to imagine I'll like using the Armstrong also.

Know what you mean. I'm the nut who put his Snap on flare wrenches in the back up. Then I switched to Cornwell, Bonney and Matco flares as the go to's. The thicker beams are easier on my hands.

When collecting tools in My early years of apprenticeship and young journeyman, I have purchased whatever was good and on sale, original herbrand/craftsman/gray/proto/and yes early stanley, My faves are My armstrongs, I have both ratchets/sockets, 3/8",1/2" drive and comb. wrenches sets of theres, absolutely excellent, all tools are from the mid 80's to early 90's, the only torque wrenches that I believe in for sure, just My opinion of them.
