I went to the local Army/Navy surplus store the other day and rooted through their box of wrenches and picked up what I feel is a great deal on some Gray Tools open end wrenches, ignition wrenches and a couple of 8 point sockets.
I got 23 pieces at an average price of $1.89. The most expensive was $6.00 and the least expensive was $.50. The current retail value is $380.00. Some of the sizes are discontinued so I took the price of the nearest size. There are some odd-ball sizes such as 25/32" and 19/32" and I did get some doubles in my haste . The only ones I was unable to find were the sizes 7/16" to 9/16". I found every thing between 1 1/8" to 5/8" and 3/8" to 1/4".
Since Gray Tools are a major supplier to "The Department of National Defense (DND)" here in Canada, sometimes you can find some great surplus items. Many of the tools had red paint on them and I had to do some picking to get tools free of DND identification marks. Other than a few nicks here and there they are in great shape. Some look like they have never been used.
One of the most handy items is the 7/8" engineers wrench (single open end) as it fits perfectly on the nuts of my hold down/ clamping set for the drill press.
