I have received my collapsible rolling tool box today from Woot (ordered it on Friday !!!).

The package was damaged and had holes in it, as soon as i lifted it up form the porch (where the mail man left it), it broke through the card board.

A big MINUS for packaging / handling by the delivery guy !

I opened up the package and on lid was broken off, guess this was caused by the bad packaging / handling.

It wasn't damaged, it just came off by the week welding seam.

No big deal i thought and riveted it back on (and as a measure of precaution, i did the same at the other lid.)

The box was very hard to open at first, but after some oil at the joints and some more tries, it works fine now and it'll need some break-in time to loosen the joints up a bit.

Over all impression:

Quality:

Not a Hazet collapsible tool box,

The powder coat has already some chips (minor, there will be more during use over the years).

It feels strong and not flimsy when it stands up,

the collapsing mechanism works great,

It rolls nice and has nice castors,

the size is for my purposes great (put some tools in it from my big box when i do some work around the house / car / motorcycle.....).

Over all:

Would i pay 300$ for it ? No, my Hazet Assistent is better quality (of course higher price, but i'd rather would buy a used Hazet for 300 - 400 than spending 300 on this one).

Would i buy it again:

Yes, especially for this price (75$ shipped) and even double the price.
I was very close to pull the trigger a few weeks ago at the Eastwood website where the price is 159 $ (and i would have eventually ordered it some times.

I can see this thing working pretty well and come in Handy really often.

Over all i am pleased with the purchase / quality.

The detached lid:

The lid fell off & you'd buy another???

yes i would, if i would have paid the full price i would have send it back to get another box, but over all, yes, i would buy another one, even if i would have to put some more rivets into it....

It's not like i bought a computer with a broken main board or a ipad with a broken screen, 10 holes, 10 rivets and 10 minutes later : all good in the hood....

Mine is supposed to be here on Wednesday. I hope it does better while in transit than yours did.

You should post up in the proper forum thread for this item over at woot. The staff can be very responsive, espcially since they are just getting the tool section of the website off the ground. I wouldn't be shocked to see them refund you the full price since you had to repair or send you a second one.

Just got mine in a few minutes ago. No detached hinge, though there is a thumbnail-sized area where the paint started to peel.

I'm guessing from the labeling on the box that these boxes were originally bought by Amazon, they didn't sell so Amazon passed them along to woot.

They must've been sitting in storage a while, because the part of the handle that extends out for maneuvering is showing some signs of corrosion.

I generally treat woot as an internet version of a "scratch 'n dent" sale... so I have low expectations of the stuff on there, which is matched by the price.

I got mine today. Packaging was good and only a small paint chip, but the handle was corroded. Not bad but I really didn't need it.

That's my guess. Mine were pretty ok, but there was corrosion on a few rivets and that handle. Nothing bad. Well worth the price. There's got to be 40 lbs of steel in this thing. It isn't flimsy by any means.

I need to try some dry lube on the lid arms. They're real tight at the moment.

Yes, these are made in Germany.

Received mine today. UPS driver pointed out to me that he didn't know what it was, but there was some round thing sticking out one corner he wanted me to know about.

"Oh, that, It's a handle." And I pulled the knob handle out with shaft a good 24" out of the side of the box.

The handle was fine, as was the box inside. No damage, no paint chips, nothing wrong with it. Now I have to find a USE for it. It's a bit bigger than I imagined and be a good general purpose driveway box.
