Needed a whatever drive, 1 1/4 deep socket, tonite, for tomorrow's job.
Went to Sears, HF, Berland's House Of Tools, Ace Hardware.
Only place that had 1 tonite was Lowe's. An impact - so what. Only $11ish.
Only place that had it in a set was HF. Couldn't get, without cheezing the bossman, due to having blown 600 on an electronic refrigerant leak detector earlier today.
Sears used to go to 1 1/4. Now they have 1'' as the biggest.
Ace had a discontinued line from SK 1 1/8.

If you have a Northern Tool in your area, they carry a good selection of larger sockets for reasonable prices. I was looking at a 1 5/16 for about $7 IIRC.

I guess the point I failed to make is no one with the exception of 1 is carrying big individual sockets anymore.
Next time I'll order from McMasrter Carr a day ahead.

Get the HF set so you have more sizes in case needed for next time. Use the 20% off and you're good to go.

Bought a 1 1/8 deep socket a couple weeks ago from Sears. Looking at the sheet that came with the every socket we sell kit from 10-12 years ago I don't see a 1 1/4 deep, just shallow. Biggest deep I see listed is 1 3/16

Yes, but Northern Tool does still offer individual sockets in the larger sizes, and for reasonable prices. The example I gave was a 1 5/16 I needed, they had for about $7.00........

Well-stocked car parts stores will often have individual large sizes.
Tractor Supply would be another.

Looking thru my stuff, I found a 1 1/4 chrome deep socket. It's a gearwrench brand and I recall getting it from advance auto parts. I don't go there anymore so I don't know if this is something they still stock
