I did several searches on this but came up empty, I'm thinking there is already a thread but I can't find it.

Anyway, I need to weld up some kind of little tabletop art project for my wife's Xmas present. Does anyone have any suggestions? Some kind of scrap art migged together would be great, I just need some ideas. Last year was old wrenches welded together to form a "running man" about 10" high, she loved it.

Thanks!

A little more info would help I think. Is there a theme you want to stick with? Recreating animals and creatures are always neat if she likes critters.

I have not done it yet but mix metals like copper on steel or stainless I thought would look cool.

Moving parts used ball joints, door hinges, bearings, etc. I have a sculpture I made almost two years ago that stands about 3' tall free standing, legs are fixed into position as well as the tail looks kinda like a evil Kermit the frog with a tail and teeth. I used wore out ball joints and tie rods for joints in the arms shoulders, elbows, and wrists so it can be posed also one in the neck. Ill see if I can find a pic of it to post.

Car/truck transmissions and engines are a good source for small cool parts for sculptures as well.

Here is a very creative artist in Canada that does a lot of neat work.

I like to check his website every so often to see whats up. He even gives a way all sorts of stuff now and again vintage tools, art work, and odd and ends.

Google the words: welding art sculptures
you will get all sorts of pictures and web sites. A while ago I found web site for a place that makes darn near life size Transformers, aliens from the Alien movie franchise very cool sculptures.

Hey Bruce,

I just wanted to give you this link,

Its about how to make a steel rose. Its in my blacksmithing journal thread but you can make these with basic tools and dont need a forge or anvil. If you dont have a band saw a jig saw with a metal blade will work just fine for getting the petal cut out.

Its post #123 and #128 that you will need to look at. Its fairly detailed as for the how to but you can message me with any questions and ill gladly help out.

There are other projects that use the same techniques as this on page 8,9,and 10. Including a very large version of the rose in the link above. Its might help with the detail work.

Good luck with whatever you come up with.
