After reading about garage interior finishing, I decided to use OSB instead of dry wall. My two car garage is packed so I will be doing one wall at a time and moving junk as I go. Priming the boards with Kilz before hanging seemed like a good idea to keep the junk shuffle to a reasonable minimum.

Looking at my 7/16" OSB, I chose to put the smooth side out and found images of hardware standing proud of the surface. Almost all the sheets had some bolts or washers embossed in the surface. What a great decoration for a garage! They must use old garages and their contents to make OSB.

Here are a few images with the hardware highlighted:

I found the same thing in my OSB. I have a couple of large lag screw embossings. I like them, so I put the panel where it was most visible.

I also had things like that in my OSB. I always assumed it was a one off thing due to some faulty equipment. It appears to be more common than I thought. It didn't really bother me that much either.

There is a metal detector at the mill my Dad works at (JM Huber) so stuff like that doesn't leave the plant.

Many years ago he dropped a set of channel lock pliers and it went though the press. He cut them out of the OSB and sent it in for warranty and got a new set! I guess the channel lock guys pulled it out of the OSB and they still worked, but wanted to keep it to hang it on the wall.

I have seen that many times in the past, I just assumed the sheeting runns thru a series of rollers, I assume that at some point a bolt or something fell into the roller system causing the profile of said hardware to be embedded in teh rollers thusfor transferring into the sheet goods

I didn't find anything like that in the OSB I put in my garage, but many years ago when I remodeled a house, I found metal pieces in the particle board. It really ate up my circular saw blades.
