That console looks a tad weighty! It'll never blow away in a S. Florida hurricane; I'd hide under it if one hit the neighborhood.

Very elegant, love the finials!

Yes, its very heavy. Should be around awhile. Thanks for the compliments.

The wood is White Oak.

How about some stained glass? Here's a couple around the garage:

Wanted something a little different for a gate, so I put some simple stained glass in the top with the address in white glass. A second gate facing the side yard has the same glass pattern, but without the numbers.

This is the door from the house into the garage - one of the very first pieces I ever did...

Being an MG nut, I've made a LOT of MG logos in various colors. This is the only one I still have (on the garage wall)...all the others I've given away to other MG owners...

Light fixtures were cheap ones from Home Depot....replaced since that photo was taken. The globes on those were VERY thin glass, and broke easily - probably from the vibration of closing the gate. Rather than replace the globes with some more substantial, I just put up new fixtures...

Streamline moderne facade on my mezzanine . I made it with wiggle board(bendable plywood), remnants and furring strips. This is at my shop which i keep at a drive-in movie theater. Working on an office shack done in an "ole salty dog nautical theme" now.

Tiki,

I need to see more pictures of this shop. Please post more pictures! Do you have any daylight pictures? Love to hear more about this build.

Dave,

I'll get some more pics up in a few days. I am buiding my tugboat wheelhouse office at the moment, so **** is everywhere. I noticed you are going to start your bench. I would recommend using the bendable plywood (wiggle board) I used on my facade. The stuff comes in different thicknesses and runs about 30 bucks a sheet. Either 4x8 or 8x4 and available at most real lumber yards.

More of industrial art / re-purposed hardware. Table base is Boeing 777 main wheel that was being scrapped out. Cleaned it up and added a glass top to make a nightstand for my oldest son.

Here's a clock I made from some left over forklift parts I scrounged up from work. I'll post a picture of the lamp I'm making from a 2bbl carburetor when I finish it too.

Yes, please, Tiki. That is a very interesting, unique shop. Better yet, open a thread on your garage in the gallery section.

It would be great if you could maintain your "streamline moderne" style and keep a consistent theme. I like your mezzanine, a bit art deco.

I made a firewood rack with some 1/2x1, 5/8sq., and 1/2sq. Then used marble for the shelves.

I made this for out in the garage tonight. I was cleaning my work bench, and was tired of always misplacing my sharpies and shop pencil. And I needed a better place to keep my remotes in the garage other then using one of my shop stools or putting them on the work bench.

I have had both pieces of tubing and the bar stock laying on my work bench just for this reason for months now. I finally got the motivation to build it tonight.

I think I will end up clear coating it.

Replaced drywall half wall railing with cast iron railing. Stick welded in the garage.

DSCN8410.jpg

DSCN8408.jpg

Lower landing. I wanted to try bent wood glue laminating so I purchased 1/4" Oak trim, built inner structure and bent 1st piece of trim to a pleasing curve. I glued, nailed and clamped succeding pieces to form the railing. The flat panel is just 1/4 Oak plywood bent to a compound curve. I just cut the inner bracing to match. Glue, nails and screws hold it to shape. Fitting trim pieces took a bit of trimming and sanding to make tight joints. Mounted remaining extra cast panel to face for continuity.

DSCN8409.jpg

The cast railing was done about 15 years ago. The lower landing done about 6 years ago.

The faux stone painting on the steps was done about 6 years ago also. (I don't like how it turned out). Previously the steps were faux finished a white marble, which did turn out much better. It is just latex paint over Oak treads covered with 2 coats of water based polyurethane. The marble version lasted 10 years before showing wear. The steps are the main ones into the house. Originally they were covered with carpet and when the previous owners had the carpets cleaned the water ran off the riser carpet staining each unfinished Oak tread black on the back part. I tried to clean off the stain and could not. That is what started the faux finish.

Next version I will try a granite we saw on vacation.

One of my favorite limericks as a kid:

Arty farty had a party and all the farts were there
Tutty fruity let a beauty, and they all went out for air

Feel free to share that with your kids / grandkids, ha, ha

I had access to a plasma cutter while I was taking an intro to welding class at the community college. I spent the last day of class doing the cutting for this fire pit. I still need to do some grinding, but it turned out OK for my first project.

My wife and I had seen these for sale before, but I was able to do it for way less. Even if it isn't quite as nice as the original, at least I can say that I did it.

Not very artsy but I am just glad to be done. Cedar closet lining project for on of my customers, should not normally be a big deal but if you have ever worked with the Cedar Safe tongue and grove planks you know most of the material in the packages are warped, split, bad tongues or groves. I used the straightest and pieces for the backs and then cut the sides using fairly straight and decent edged sections that were long enough. I was going to end up nearly as much waste and usable material. Decided I would have to true one edge and then rip to parallel to yield some usable pieces. I would then cut lap joints and bevels to present the same profile although a little narrower to get some usable material. The customer then decided he wanted the bottoms and tops to have a Chippendale pattern. Determined a pattern that would fit all the closet sections (7) with 2 on the bottom and 2 on the top and using the max width I would end up with. So each Chippendale pattern consists to 20 pieces and has to be run through the router table 6 to 8 times (depending on the piece) with 2 different bits and 2 different settings for each bit. Then made filler strips to take up the space between the patterns. Then ripped down some 1X8 maple and make a trim pieces to hide cut ends of the sides using beading bit and rabbet bits to cut trim profile to mimic drawers below. Just fricking glad to be done cause all my operations had to be done on the opposite end of the house about 75 feet away through some doors and turn in the hallway. Oh and the closet wasn't empty I had to do each section one at a time and move the clothes to do the next.

I saw this quote while surfing GJ and thought it would make an awesome sign for my dad's garage. It turned out so well I made one for my father in law and one for my own garage.
PS: if it was your posting that I plagiarized, I would be happy to send you a copy of the file so that you can print your own sign

That look like a drawing of a Ford Econoline. Is it?

Yes it is. Here is the whole drawing, my buddy did it a long time ago and I loved it so he gave it to me. Ignore the 1984 on the front, he isn't a car guy and he puts that in all his art as part of his signature.

There is some very nice work posted above. Here is my contribution. First up is the little metal truck, about 18" long, crazy amount of hours.

Here's a few pics of a large metal agle, around 300 individually made feathers. Used a cold gun bluing for the final finish.

And a couple of the wire frame cars, 1:6 scale around 20" long.
