My dad was over the other night and while we were talking he was looking at some of the photos I have framed on the wall that I took and suggested that I try to sell prints. While I am fairly proud of some of them, especially the black and whites printed on metallic paper, most of my stuff are fairly close up shots of cars and buildings which gear heads might like, but I think I'm the only one crazy enough to frame a picture of the rockers of a small block on my bedroom wall.

I see a lot of great old signs on the walls of garages here, but are arty pictures of car parts something you could imagine hanging on your shop walls, let alone paying for?

Easily.

Every one appreciates art when they see it.

I can't recall a garage that didn't have at least one piece of art in it(hot rod, vintage sign, pin-up calendar, antique tools)

The artistic touch is what separates a craftsman from a worker.

Absolutely, theres probably a huge market for it. I would think you would need specific shots to align with all the different kinds of shops. Vintage machinery, antique gas and oil field engines, hot rods, engine shots, etc...

I do think there is a market for stuff like this. And I agree Etsy is probably a good place to advertise.

But I also think most people will want more than “print rights”. Instead I think you will find the most success by offering your art in various printed media such as poster paper, canvas, metal, framed, unframed, etc.

Point of reference, several years back I saw some “subway art” in a Restoration Hardware store. If you’ve ever been in RH you probably know most items are expensive. While I really liked and wanted the pieces for my home office, I was simply unwilling to pay their ask. My search for a cheaper alternative is how I discovered Etsy. I got some high quality prints and had framed locally. I had about $300 or so wrapped up in the project after the framing but was very pleased.

FYI, I could foresee the gas pump photo being a popular item.

Don't just think about personal shops, but dealerships, architects, and engineers. Some of those building images are similar to what I see in architects offices and what we have in our office (MEP Engineers).

What they said.

I suggest you find ways to copyright your work immediately via a statement or a watermark, because those pictures are higher quality (speaking to the artistic value) than many others I have seen. I've seen lesser quality thieved by online pricks and sold illicitly.

I would absolutely buy your stuff for both my home and (if I had one) garage.
