To add to the threads about "Asphalt Driveways" I had mine done this week, they ended up using 60 tons of asphalt, I had approx. 4800 sq ft, I think it turned out good.

Looks great! I'm about 30 minutes south of Lexington in Harrodsburg. Are you in that area?

Nice place!

Last time I got a quote in my area concrete wasn’t much more, so I went that route.

I'll bet it cost a small fortune. I wish he would have used cobble stones as a boarder along the sides for support, Although it would probably doubled the price. It would keep the asphalt from spreading out do to heat and use.

I had a local family owned company out to look at my driveway yesterday. Funny, mine too, is 4800 sq. ft., but it is already blacktop. It's "alligatoring" badly in two places, and they would remove those places and put in new asphalt, and mill near the concrete pad in front of the garage, and the shop doors. Last year, the township replaced my culvert, so there is a 3' strip near the road where the twshp. just filled in last week with cold patch. They would also replace that before paving.

He said he would fill in major cracks with hot tar before doing the job, and would lay down 2". Right around $9000. I haven't received the proposal yet. Hmmm.

Yours looks really good.

Looks really nice! For some strange reason I like walking on freshly rolled asphalt, it feels kinda like **** carpet to me.

I looked into it for the bottom of my driveway, where it meets the road. Most of my gravel driveway stays nice, but at the bottom of the hill it gets torn up from vehicles starting/stopping and moving the gravel around. A few years ago, the blacktop was the same price as having it done in concrete. Still haven't done it yet.

$7723.75, sorry, I thought I put that in my post
Wow It looks fantastic and, to add to your bliss, that is a smok'n deal.
I had my drive quoted last fall.
4500 sq ft, going over existing established gravel drive, pretty much all straight, 2" thick = $9500 :eyecrazy: :willy_nil

Is that a binder course then a top or base course then a top or just 2.5 inches of material rolled to a 2 inch final depth?

It was 2 1/2" rolled/compacted to 2", he did say they went thicker down the driveway? The asphalt plant was about 5 miles from my house, that helped on the price. My driveway is 170' long and then opens up and goes over to my barn. He said they like to seal it in 1 year and then every 2-3 years as needed again. I think it turned out good. Now to seed and straw my yard and I will be done (After grass grows of course)

Did you get any prices for concrete before you did asphalt? I am trying to decide between them for my new place and just wonder how much you saved going with asphalt.
