So I’m trying to run Cat6 from the corner of the gable for a camera and ran into 2 problems.

1. After drilling a pilot hole through the soffit I found out that the soffit isn’t hollow and my glow rod is hit blocking.

How would you guys drill through this blocking? I was thinking of picking up one of those long flexible auger drills like this?

2. Finding it difficult to figure out which 2x4 to drill into to get from the soffit to attic to pull the cable through.

Appreciate your time & help anyone can provide.

I have used those drill bits. Eventually I end up breaking the bit at some point but they usually save me enough effort (I do get multiple uses) to make it worth while having one.

The challenge is getting them to run in the middle of the stud/rafter/etc. as they will want to drift to the edges. I see them as a last resort to solve a challenge. The longest I have used is 48", 72" would be even more challenging with drift.

Drill a hole, from inside to outside, right where your circle is. Then drill soffit from outside where camera goes. Holes should be in the same cavity
Sorry I should have clarified the room is already dry walled

Yea that was my concern with a 72” would drift and be very difficult to keep straight all the way up

That changes things. Can you remove the soffit covering? I still think going backwards from the corner within the soffit will allow you to easily fish up into the attic using the 1st rafter bay.

Again mm08822 beat me to it.

Plan B
If you house has metal soffit and fascia. remove the nails
/screws on the piece of fascia to the left it should have be the last one put on. Simply pull down piece of fascia and will come out no damage, no muss no fuss. Do the same with the fascia where you want to run the wire and Viola you have access.

Got it. Just so I understand instead of going all the way up the soffit drill straight back until I hit the first rafter bay most likely using some sort of flexible auger bit like this?

Thx @rancherbill the soffit is hardie board so can easily remove it like the aluminum soffits.
