We wanted to make impact bits that don't ****.

Currently, the amount of bits and bit sockets sets out there that are good in our opinion is a very short list that most of us know well. We wanted to make it onto that list, then not charge you like we were.

I have been talking to a couple of our best forges/factories for going on 3 years, well nagging them really, to consider making something different. Most factories in Taiwan make these out of Cromoly, and they are not bad - but really I don't use them outside of hand tool use. After the introduction of our Nano impact sockets went gang busters, and has continued to, I got the street cred I needed for everyone involved to say "fine okay, make them however you want. What's the spec?"

Truth is I didn't know. Probably a Tool Steel, probably a Shockproof toolsteel like S2 if experience and marketplace tells us anything, but beyond that I wasn't sure.

So we spent the next year making dozens of different sample sets with various treatments, hardnesses and stress relief post processes. Then we sent them to professionals, GJ users and our traditional field test partners who use these every day and awaited feedback.

Based on feedback we isolated the best performers and finished our own testing.

Results showed that.... you can still break them:lol_hitti... on small sizes.... of mainly Torx (hex are nearly indestructible)... with an 1828 Nano impact which is pretty burly for a 3/8", and in almost all cases the fastener breaks off at the head or becomes a circle first.

Good news is, so did the MVP sets we were aiming for. These bits bested or matched nearly all samples tested against, some almost 10X the street price of these. There seems to just be inherent design constraints when making something Torx shape and indestructible, where improving means it no longer fits in the fastener.

Not sure if this kind of info is welcome or if I'm just babbling, but below is the real details

Lifetime Warranty
As easy as it gets. Send us an email ([email protected]), PM on GJ, text or carrier pigeon with a picture of a broken bit and we'll ship a replacement out.

Looking forward to testing the T40's mettle on a couple of jeeps (spelling intentional FWIW)
The current class standard is the gold snappys and they do not hang well to this use.

Why no 9mm hex for the Ford, Mercedes guys?
Too many companies skip this size.

Only thing I would do different would be to
reduce the size of the case. Squeeze the bits
closer together.
I’d like to have a set.

Edit: I just visited your website and I think it
sux, maybe you need to do some work there.

Awesome! Long overdue! I'm in for a set when they're available. I'll test the t40 on seatbelt bolts and the t45 on transmission rebuilds

Those look awesome! Keep us posted on when they are up for sale, I would like to get a set of the hex bits and maybe the torx bits.

The original post was not a ramble at all. They were words all us tool junkies want to hear from a manufacturer & the fact your striving to meet/exceed top tier options at those prices will attract attention in the market place. I'd buy those for sure.

Very Nice!!! Thanks for sharing and being active here. I know it isn't easy at times.

Two questions, First, i might have missed it but, when do these hit the market?

and will the metric hex set be available as a stand alone rail set without the SAE set?

Thanks,

Wish they had a 5 mm hex as well for working on bicycles.
yup bring in 4 and 5mm. would like to see a mid length set maybe with 3 inch long bits. some other sizes like 11 and 15 would be good for freehubs. currently i'm using a proto impact hex bit set 4-10mm. set is ok except the bits are kind of loose in the socket. the setscrew holds it from separating but the bit is loose

These are the sets currently available, but if they sell well I can make a metric only set on a rail with additional sizes - something we would look at next year.

If we do make more sizes, I can send them to GJ members with the current set no problem.

Actually it's a decent question since the toolfetch links show the sets as being out of stack :wtf:

Their listing is probably more of a place saver until stock arrives :duuno:

I know I can't find the sets anywhere.

Good catch, I didn't see that. They also show up on a Google search at summit racing with an est. ship date of 9/3...

If they were just released we'll start seeing them where we usually buy AP tools as they receive inventory.

Could we get an update on this please? I bought the Torx but not the hex yet. If you are doing a metric only rail set I’d rather buy those.

I'm still kind of skeptical. There are jobs that are guaranteed to destroy torx bits and I already have two sets of cheap Canadian tire impact torx bits which have lasted slightly longer the Mac and Snap on bits.

I've been happy with them in the few times I used them. Drove some 8" long structural screws with the T40 today on my impact driver.

Torx head sizes seem undersized by design and prone to breaking no matter what.

The big difference with these is they're about half the length of a normal torx or Hex socket. Maybe you don't commonly need short bits, but the combo of them being strong, impact, and short makes these a winner IMO.

Plus they're inexpensive and lifetime warranty with great support even right on the forum. What's not to like?

I have both the hex and torx set. I've used almost all of the hex sockets at least once and haven't used any of the torx yet. I've been happy with their performance.

Something that enters my mind, though - On the drive side, the sockets are built like a chrome socket with 4 detents instead of a single hole like what you usually find on an impact socket. I haven't had any issues, but I kinda worry each time I put one onto an impact wrench that the hog ring might get stuck in one of the detents. It's probably a non-issue, as I've never seen that happen and I haven't heard anything from anyone else here on GJ or elsewhere.
